The leaves are starting to change and there’s a chill in the air. These are telltale signs of one thing … Halloween is almost here! This time of year, almost everyone loves being a little scared — from the young to the old. The problem is that the content available often isn’t appropriate for the younger crowd. It’s either too scary or has adult themes, and that leaves some kids out. The streaming platform Disney+ might have an answer this Halloween season with the new TV series Just Beyond.

‘Just Beyond’ is family-friendly, so everyone can get in on the fun

The upcoming TV series Just Beyond is based on the graphic novels by famous horror author R. L. Stine. For years, Stine has been terrifying teens with his Fear Street novels, and the younger kids got spooked by Goosebumps. Now audiences will get a new taste from the author in the series that will stream exclusively on Disney+.

The writer behind the series, Seth Grahame-Green, has been behind the helm of Stine’s adaptations to screen before with the 1990s TV series Goosebumps, the film version of Goosebumps starring Jack Black, and even the recent Fear Street trilogy that premiered on Netflix in 2021.

Disney+ has ordered eight episodes of the series for the first season and looks to be a mix between comedy and horror. It’s an anthology series, and viewers will get a new story in every episode. The recently released poster by the streaming platform teases everything from aliens to witches, which sounds similar to Stine’s Goosebumps.

Writer Grahame-Smith wanted to give families an ‘experience they could enjoy together’

In a statement released to Deadline back in May of 2020, Graham-Smith said,

“I grew up watching Twilight Zone reruns and the original Amazing Stories with my parents. I’ve always wanted to make a genre anthology series that families could enjoy together, and do it in a way that delivered for kids and adults alike. R.L. Stine has been a part of millions of childhoods, and Disney+ has already proven itself as a place that knows how to make high-quality shows for the whole family. I couldn’t be more excited to be working with both of them.”

Anthologies often serve both horror movies and series well as they usually don’t require a lot of backstories for viewers to get the scares they crave. In the recent success of shows like American Horror Story and Shudder’s Creepshow, it’s nice to know the younger crowd won’t be left out on the fun of horror this Halloween.

When and where can audiences watch ‘Just Beyond’?

Just Beyond has been in the works since 2020, but now the series has a firm release date. Viewers can expect the show to be available on Disney+ starting Oct. 13, 2021, and as of now, it looks as though all eight episodes will be released at once. Other shows like The Mandalorian and Loki released a few episodes on the premiere date, and then fans had to wait a week between new episodes. Just Beyond looks to be taking a different approach, and we can’t wait to add it to our binge-watching schedule.
