Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be wild if the trailers are any indication of the movie’s scope. Fans expect numerous exciting cameos in the Doctor Strange sequel, including Captain Carter, who will be making her live-action debut in the film. Captain Carter recently appeared in a new Doctor Strange 2 trailer. But will Hayley Atwell return to play the superhero?

Captain Carter made her debut in ‘What If…?’

Hayley Atwell originally played Peggy Carter, an SSR agent and love interest of Steve Rogers, in Captain America: The First Avenger. The actor went on to reprise her role in Agent Carter, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Avengers: Endgame. Peggy played a prominent role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as one of the co-founders of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Atwell later provided the voice for Captain Carter in the animated Marvel Disney+ series, What If…? The show explored universes separate from the MCU. And What If…? Episode 1 highlighted a reality where Peggy Carter took the Super Soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers.

Steve was supposed to take the serum, but a HYDRA spy interfered, resulting in Peggy entering the chamber instead. She becomes Captain Carter and fights HYDRA alongside Steve, who operates an armored suit called the HYDRA Stomper. However, Peggy’s story parallels the MCU’s Captain America’s journey when she goes through a portal that sends her 70 years into the future.

Captain Carter became aware of the multiverse in the What If…? Season 1 finale. Peggy and heroes from other universes banded together to stop Ultron Vision. And now Captain Carter is expected to appear in Doctor Strange 2, which dives deep into the multiverse.

Captain Carter appears in a new ‘Doctor Strange 2’ trailer

Fans first speculated that Captain Carter would be in the Doctor Strange sequel after Marvel released the first poster for the movie. The image features many Easter eggs, including Captain Carter’s Union Jack shield. But thanks to a new teaser for the MCU film, fans are confident that the British hero appears in Doctor Strange 2.

Per The Direct, Marvel Studios released a new Doctor Strange 2 promo a week before its release. It includes additional detailed footage of Patrick Stewart’s Professor X, a Captain Marvel variant, and the first look at Captain Carter in live-action.

The video doesn’t show Carter’s face. However, fans can see the shield that unmistakably identifies her. And the new footage reveals that Captain Carter is fighting Scarlet Witch.

Plus, Peggy is wearing a new jetpack in the teaser, which might be a nod to the HYDRA Stomper. Could Chris Evans play an alternate Steve Rogers in the film? We’ll try not to get our hopes up, but the idea of Steve and Peggy fighting alongside one another again is intriguing.

Unfortunately, it’s unclear whether the Captain Carter in Doctor Strange 2 is the same superhero from What If…? But fans will not have to wait long for answers since the movie will soon be in theaters.

It’s unknown whether Hayley Atwell will play the live-action Captain Carter

Although Marvel confirmed that Captain Carter is in Doctor Strange 2, it’s unknown whether Hayley Atwell will be playing her. But it might be safe to say that the actor will reprise her animated role in the live-action movie.

Atwell has appeared in numerous Marvel projects as Peggy Carter, who is a fan favorite. It wouldn’t make sense if Marvel cast a new actor to appear as Captain Carter in Doctor Strange 2. And Atwell has expressed her desire to play the superhero on the big screen after voicing the role in What If…? So fans should likely expect to see Atwell in the Doctor Strange sequel.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness premieres exclusively in theaters on May 6.
