These heels are made for walking. Dolly Parton’s country glam aesthetic is a thing of legends. The 74-year-old is never seen without a fabulous wig, her outfits are always decked to the nines in glitter, and she’s always wearing high heels.

Parton has always said that high heels are her favorite shoes. And in a recent interview, the star revealed she wears heels at all hours of the day because of her love of them, yes, but also for a rather practical reason.

Dolly Parton wears high heels at home

In an interview with RuPaul for Marie Claire, the “I Will Always Love You” singer shared details about her morning routine and what her home life with husband Carl Dean is like.

As she revealed, she wakes up at 3 a.m. every morning because that’s when she gets her best songwriting done. The star wakes up, prays, meditates, thinks “I’ve got so much to do,” and then gets to it. Once her morning work is done and her husband is awake, she makes breakfast.

“This morning I made breakfast for my husband and me,” Parton told RuPaul. “I made some sausage patties, and I baked some biscuits, and I made some milk gravy. He likes that once in a while. Now, I can’t eat like that all the time, but I enjoy eating it when I do.”

Knowing exactly who he was talking to, RuPaul asked, “When you were cooking, were you wearing your high heels?”

As Parton responded to the drag icon, “I always wear my high heels. Don’t you?”

“No. That’s the thing: There are similarities in what we do, but I take all that stuff off,” he joked back.

“Well, I don’t,” the “Head Over High Heels” singer quipped.

Dolly Parton is always ready for an appearance

Parton revealed that she barely gets out of glam in order to keep up with her highly curated image.

“I have to always stay ready—street ready, I always say,” she told the Drag Race host. “I have to keep my makeup on and keep my hair done. Like, when I’m in L.A.—I’ve told you about it—if it’s going to earthquake, if we get an earthquake, I’m not running out in the street looking like you look now. I have to be ambulance-ready at all times, if I get sick or something.”

And staying ready means keeping her high heels on. Not just to complete her outfit, but also to reach the cabinets in her house. The star is only 5 ft. tall, so heels make things more accessible to her.

“I actually do wear high heels most of the time,” she noted. “They’re not always as high as the ones I wear for show. But I’m little. I’m short. And I have to wear heels in order to reach my cabinets. But I always enjoy wearing the shoes too, and I just feel more like me. But I can come down, though. I’m comfortable in my own skin; I’m comfortable with my image. I dress for myself more than I do for somebody else.”

Oh, Dolly. How we love you.
