Karen Derrico learns she’s had a miscarriage in latest episode of ‘Doubling Down With the Derricos’

In the latest episode of Doubling Down With the Derricos, Karen and her husband Deon Derrico headed to a sonogram appointment. Karen admitted she was nervous going into the exam room. Though doctors had said that her “numbers were looking great,” she couldn’t shake a feeling that the pregnancy wasn’t progressing as it should.

Unfortunately, Karen got the news that she feared during her appointment. Her seven-week pregnancy was not viable.

“It’s the worst feeling in the world that I don’t wish on anybody. It’s too much,” Karen said in a confessional.

This was Karen’s seventh miscarriage, Deon explained. Each one has hit his wife hard, he said.

“Although I’m grateful for all my children, it’s a sucker-punch,” a tearful Karen told her husband after they returned home. She also confessed to feeling bad about being so upset about this miscarriage when she already has 14 children. But Deon reassured her that her emotions were perfectly normal.

Deon and his mom worry about Karen’s mental health

Karen and Deon revealed they were expecting again during an earlier episode of Doubling Down With the Derricos Season 3. At the time, Karen said her previous miscarriages left her with complex emotions going into this pregnancy.

“I’m going to continue to trust God that this is going to be OK. But it’s just eating me up. I can hardly sleep at night. I’m just extremely stressed out,” she said. “I just think I really am dealing with PTSD.”

After learning that Karen’s latest pregnancy was not viable, Deon spoke to his mother GG about the loss and his concerns for his wife. GG felt that Karen needed more support to deal with her emotions.

“I’m kinda worried about Karen’s mental health,” she said in a confessional. Later, she urged her daughter-in-law to seek therapy. But Karen rejected the idea, saying that she’d had bad experiences with therapists in the past and that she didn’t feel there was anyone who could understand her situation.

After the episode aired, Karen and Deon took to Instagram to thank followers for their support and speak about their loss. A tearful Karen spoke about the pain of experiencing a miscarriage.

“When you go through a miscarriage, it’s so hard because they’re unexplainable,” she said. “You go through the ‘why me?’ questions … my heart goes out to other moms out there who are dealing with this trauma and pain.”

“I hate to be part of the miscarriage club,” she added. But she said hoped women would continue to share their stories of loss. “I want whoever is going through it to continue and talk about it and share because that’s the only way you can make way going through this. It really is a trauma.”
