Drake is a rapper, actor, and entrepreneur, who is known for his love of extravagant lifestyle trappings, including private jets and super-expensive parties.

Still, when it comes to some of his interests, he is surprisingly relatable. Drake is a known lover of video games and occasionally frequents Twitch, the live video streaming platform that attracts everyone from big-name celebrities to middle-schoolers who want to relate to others who love the same video games that they do.

The rapper is one of the strongest presences on the platform, with the power to attract a massive audience — but he might soon have some competition from a very unlikely source.

What is Twitch?

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, many social media platforms are becoming more popular than ever before. Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook always draw a slew of users — however, Twitch is one of the latest platforms to really start earning buzz.

Twitch was founded in 2011, but it hasn’t really started gaining traction until the past few years. Twitch offers live video streaming, with very few restrictions on the content that can be streamed.

Users can enjoy dual screens in the platform, one of the featured content itself and the other of the streamer, providing a unique experience that is unlike anything else.

Users take to Twitch to stream concerts, cooking demos, Q&A sessions, gaming sessions, and much more. Far and away, the gaming content on Twitch has become the platform’s most popular, with thousands of users flocking to Twitch every day to participate in various video game streams.

It might surprise a few of his fans to know that Drake is a huge fan of video games and often lets his fans in on which games of the moment he is enjoying. Therefore, when he took to Twitch in March 2018 to play the new-at-the-time game Fortnite, fans were pleasantly surprised. Astonishment turned to shock when the rapper’s view count continued to climb higher and higher.

At one point during the stream, according to CNET, views for Drake’s Twitch stream clocked in at well over 600,000, setting a new and ambitious record for the platform.

Ultimately, Drake broke the record for the most concurrent viewers for a single creator on Twitch. His record has remained unchallenged until recently when a surprising personality burst out of left field to take over Twitch for a memorable evening that clocked in a lot of views.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently racked up some serious Twitch views

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, a member of the Democratic Party who has frequently drawn fire from critics for her outspoken and unashamed political views.

Ocasio-Cortez is widely hailed as a champion for women’s causes, and is the youngest woman ever to serve in the United States Congress. Ocasio-Cortez is known for her penchant for utilizing unconventional means to get people involved in politics, and is very active on social media.

Still, it likely surprised some of her supporters when she recently took to Twitch to play the new hit game Among Us.

During her October 20 Twitch stream, per Engadget, Ocasio-Cortez peaked at 435,000 viewers, one of the most-viewed Twitch streams in recent memory. A huge accomplishment for Ocasio-Cortez, as well as for the platform in general, it still falls well short of Drake’s 2018 stream record.

Still, if Ocasio-Cortez keeps it up and continues streaming on a regular basis, it seems very possible that she could eventually surpass Drake’s all-time record.
