The recent Josh Duggar news has all eyes back on the Duggar family. Fans and critics of Counting On await to hear more about Josh’s upcoming trial — but it seems he’s not the only one in the spotlight. Jim Bob Duggar announced he’s running for the Arkansas Senate. And Duggar family critics noticed how Jill Duggar’s husband, Derick Dillard, responded.

Jim Bob Duggar and Derick Dillard don’t seem to have the best relationship. Years ago, Duggar family fans and critics noticed Jill Duggar didn’t seem to spend nearly as much time with her family as she once did. Jill then explained she chose to take a step away from Counting On and focus on her family away from reality TV. From there, fans assumed there was also a rift between Jill and her parents. And Derick told the couple’s followers more about what was going on.

Derick explained Jill can only visit the Duggar family home with permission from Jim Bob himself. Additionally, he said this made it difficult for Jill to connect to her younger siblings who still live with Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar. Additionally, Derick alleged Jim Bob controlled Counting On and the profits his kids saw from the show. According to Derick, he and Jill were also “humiliated and threatened” when they decided they no longer wanted to take part in reality TV.

Jill Duggar has spoken up about the rumors regarding her standing with her family, and it’s clear she’s still close with her mother, Michelle Duggar, and a number of her older siblings. But we’re not sure how she feels about Jim Bob Duggar’s latest move. The Duggar family Facebook announced Jim Bob will run for a seat in the Arkansas Senate.

“I am honored to announce my candidacy for Arkansas State Senate District 7,” Jim Bob wrote, according to Facebook. “Northwest Arkansas is my lifelong home. It’s where my wife Michelle and I have raised our 20 children. … It’s where we’ve built a life centered around our faith, family, and friends.”

Duggar family critics on Reddit noticed Derick’s response, though. He left a comment on the announcement created by the KNWA News Instagram. His comment was simply an emoji of a puzzled and confused face.

“It would be a great time for Jill/Derick to speak up now,” a Reddit user suggested.

Duggar family fans and critics question Jim Bob Duggar’s decision to get back into politics. Josh Duggar’s trial is set for Nov. 30, 2021, as federal agents arrested him in April 2021 on suspicion of downloading child sexual abuse material. The news continues to focus on Josh’s looming trial and court appearances, and the situation caused TLC to cancel Counting On completely.

Given the comments on the Duggar family Facebook announcement, it seems many followers think running for Senate is a bad move. It seems like the Duggars want to avoid the spotlight with Josh’s upcoming trial. But the Senate announcement does exactly the opposite. We’ll have to wait and see if Jill Duggar or Derick Dillard comment on the situation further.
