Derick Dillard and Jill Duggar are frequently in the Duggar news cycle — and it’s all thanks to their complicated relationship with the rest of the Duggar family. Jill’s spoken out against Counting On and why she’s chosen to take a step away from the show. And more recently, Derick “liked” a comment about Jill being “brainwashed.” Here’s what happened.
What did Derick Dillard say about Jim Bob Duggar?
Derick and Jim Bob Duggar once had a great relationship, as Jim Bob first approved of Derick courting Jill. But that’s now changed. At the end of 2019, fans asked Derick why he and Jill never seem to spend the holidays with the rest of the Duggars anymore. Derick explained, “it’s just harder now because we’re not allowed at the house when JB isn’t there.”
This prompted a much more in-depth discussion regarding where Jill and Derick stand with Jim Bob and Michelle. Derick continued commenting to fans and claimed Jill needs permission from Jim Bob before attending any events at the large Duggar family home. Not only that, but Jill also started speaking to the press and answering fan questions regarding her troubled relationship with the family.
“Are they supportive? Not always,” Jill said on her YouTube of some of her family members. “Everybody’s gonna have their opinion about different things. I feel like some of my siblings are probably more like, have something to say about it than others.”

In recent Duggar news, Reddit users noticed Derick appeared to “like” a comment made by a fan that discussed Jill being “brainwashed.” The comment appears in response to another fan who wondered why Jill spoke against her family.
“Maybe because she is a sexual assault survivor and she’s finally found her voice,” the comment said. “Because she was mentally and emotionally abused her whole life and brainwashed using God. That’s my thoughts … good for Jill. Air that sh*t out, girl … you deserve to be heard.”
“I feel like the Dillards could torch the Duggar family if they really told their story,” a Reddit user commented. “The abuse was inevitably way worse than what we even know about, and the cover-up is half the crime.”
“I have no doubt that Jill could fill VOLUMES with what really happened in that house growing up, and it would be the end of the road for mainstream Duggar fame,” another critic wrote. “And not gonna lie, I’d buy every last book.”

Jill and Derick aren’t currently on TLC’s Counting On. Aside from difficulties with the other Duggars, why did they quit the show?
