Dancing with the Stars is one of the most popular reality shows of all time, a series that keeps viewers talking year after year. It has been on the air for over fifteen years and is still going strong, with different celebs competing every season.

While many stars have received acclaim for their work on the series, Dancing with the Stars has also welcomed a number of celebrities who haven’t done so well on the show — and whose dancing is considered awkward and appalling. One of these stars is Mischa Barton, an actress who rose to fame in the early 2000s and who had a legendarily bad run on Dancing with the Stars in 2016.

‘Dancing with the Stars’ has featured many big-name celebrities over the years

Dancing with the Stars first debuted on television in 2005. The show has followed the same format over the 29 seasons that it has been on the air, where a professional dancer is paired with a celebrity.

Each week of the season, the couples perform for a distinguished panel of judges, earning judges’ points and audience votes. A new pair is voted off the show each week, ultimately leaving one couple at the end to claim the trophy.

In addition to a panel of dance expert judges, hosts for the show have included Tom Bergeron and Tyra Banks. There’s no doubt that Dancing with the Stars has star power to spare, especially when it comes to all the famous personalities that have competed on the show over the years. A few fan-favorite celebs who have appeared on Dancing with the Stars include Bobby Bones, Wendy Williams, Rumer Willis, and Lamar Odom.

While many celebrities might have had great turns on Dancing with the Stars, perfecting their dancing skills and earning new fans, some stars have had the opposite experience.

Barton is one such star. She began her career as a child actor, appearing in projects such as Lost and Delirious and Once and Again while she was still a teenager.

Barton became a teen icon after she began starring in the popular television series The O.C. She appeared in the series for three years and won several awards, including two Teen Choice Awards.

By the time she was recruited for the twenty-second season of Dancing with the Stars in 2016, Barton was an established star, with many projects under her belt. Dancing with the Stars, however, would prove to be one of her less-successful ventures.

Barton was one of the better-known celebrity contestants in season 22. But, ultimately, she would only last three weeks before getting eliminated.

Barton’s dances received low scores from the judging panel, with the actress receiving mainly 5’s and 6’s. Viewers might have noticed that Barton didn’t seem too upset to leave the show, and as she revealed not long after she left the competition, that was for good reason.

“Ugh, I had no idea it would be so bad. I got told off by my dancer,” Barton admitted to The Ringer. “It was like The Hunger Games. It was all a popularity contest. It was awful. I was so glad to get kicked off.”

In the years since her brief stint on Dancing with the Stars, Barton has stayed busy with television and film projects. Ultimately, it seems likely that her time on Dancing with the Stars will remain one of her career-low points.
