Ellen Degeneres Presses BTS About ‘Hooking up’ With ARMYs
The talk show host, Ellen Degeneres, welcomed BTS to her show a few times. However, the question that kept popping up made the members (and fans at home) a little uncomfortable.
Here’s what happened when RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook visited The Ellen Show in 2017 and 2018.
When BTS visited ‘The Ellen Show,’ she asked if they would ever date a fan
These performers have been around for over 7 years, appearing on The Late Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, a Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, and a few interviews with The Ellen Show. When they first appeared on The Ellen Show in 2017, the celebrity asked if they’ve ever gotten together or “hooked up” with a fan.
“We are doing it right now,” RM said while some of the members motioned to their fans in the audience.
“You know what I mean, have you all ever dated one of your ARMYs,” the host asked. She then pressed the translator to explain what “hooked up” means. Jungkook shook his head. V firmly said no. After the interview, these performers took to the stage, performing songs like “Airplane Pt. 2” for their fans.
Ellen asked again when the BTS performers returned to the show
The BTS members returned to this talk show in 2018, talking about their time performing at the Billboard Music Awards. Then, Degeneres asked the performers similar questions: “is anyone here dating? Do you have a girlfriend?”
“Ellen, thanks to you, every Korean knows what the word ‘hook up’ means now,” RM said. “Yeah, because last time you asked the question.”
The host just responded, saying, “that’s wonderful,” without getting an exact answer from these performers on their dating status. They did get the official The Ellen Show welcome, getting scared by a “fangirl” who popped out from a side table. The BTS members haven’t returned to The Ellen Show since then.
The BTS members don’t often talk about dating and their relationships
While these K-pop performers are, allegedly, free to date and to be in relationships, they’ve been considerably busy since their debut, with most of them focusing on their music and career. (There’s been plenty of rumors regarding these performers and their past girlfriends, although most have been proven fake.)
In the meantime, these performers have been working on their upcoming album, Be, which will be released during November 2020. They released the song “Dynamite” in August 2020, in an effort to give fans uplifting music during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
