Katy Perry recently welcomed her first child with her fiancé, Orlando Bloom. But we remember when Perry was married to Russell Brand a decade ago. Perry excitedly went on The Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about her marriage, too. Unfortunately, Brand filed for divorce just 14 months after he tied the knot with Perry.

Perry revisited DeGeneres’ show in 2017 — and it looks like DeGeneres totally forgot about Perry’s marriage even though they discussed it at length in the past. Here’s what happened.

Back in 2010, Perry visited DeGeneres to talk about her music, pop stardom, and of course, her marriage to Brand. DeGeneres first asked Perry if she’s planning on changing her last name to be “Brand” — and Perry happily noted that it’s in the works. She then delved deeper into their relationship.

“He does seem like a handful,” DeGeneres joked about Brand to Perry.

“Yeah, you know, but handfuls are also really fun. There’s never a dull moment,” Perry noted. “A sense of humor is really important in our household. I think that’s how we destress, and we like to have a laugh. You know, we’re just really good friends.”

Perry then explained that she and Brand typically spend their time with their cats, as they have three at home.

2010 wasn’t the only year Perry talked to DeGeneres about her husband. In 2011, Perry visited The Ellen DeGeneres Show once again — and she got serious about starting a family.

“I would love to have children,” Perry told DeGeneres. “I think that’s one of the reasons why you get married — and especially to the person that you marry, you think, that person’s gonna be a good partner, or a good parent.” Perry then noted that she didn’t think she wanted to have kids “yet,” but it was certainly on the horizon.

“Do you want a lot of kids?” DeGeneres followed up.

“If it doesn’t hurt the first time, I’ll keep popping them out,” Perry joked.

Within the segment, Perry also noted that Perry didn’t see her husband as often as she’d like to due to being on tour. When visiting the show, she noted she saw him for the first time in two weeks, which was her absolute limit. “Anything longer than that is not fun,” Perry noted.

Perry visited The Ellen DeGeneres show once again in 2017. And her relationship status came up. “You are single,” DeGeneres noted on the show.

“And ready to mingle,” Perry added.

DeGeneres then introduced a game titled “Would You Perry Me?” And to that, Perry jokingly asked, “Do I have to get married? Again?”

“You were not married,” DeGeneres said.

“I was, when I was 25,” Perry added.

“Were you?” DeGeneres doubles down.

“Yeah, it’s been a long time, honey,” Perry answered back. And when DeGeneres questioned to who, Perry noted, “His name was Russell Brand. Remember, you gave me some wedding gifts on this show.”

“Yes, I do,” DeGeneres nervously laughs. “That’ll be cut out.”

Perry didn’t seem to take DeGeneres’ forgetfulness personally. But fans certainly had a lot to say about the clip.

“I can’t believe Ellen forgot Katy Perry was married,” one fan commented on the 2017 video. “That divorce was everywhere.”

“I couldn’t finish this video,” another wrote. “I felt too embarrassed for Katy.”

“Knowing the backstory of what Katy Perry felt like every day during this time makes this interview so much sadder watching,” another added. “I’m glad Katy got through this tough time.”

We know Perry is incredibly happy now, as she’s with Bloom and arranging wedding plans. We’ll have to wait and see if she goes on DeGeneres’ show in the future after the last debacle, too.
