It hasn’t been an easy road for Ellen DeGeneres. The comedian got into serious trouble when staffers from The Ellen DeGeneres Show called out production for their toxic behaviors. Now, DeGeneres is doing her best to continue her show by holding it virtually.

Recently, she talked to Real Housewives star Bethenny Frankel about Frankel’s recent breakup. And DeGeneres started to get super personal. Here’s what she said.

Many fans weren’t sure if DeGeneres would be able to recover from what some of her staffers said. In the summer of 2020, some former staff from the show talked to Buzzfeed News about their negative experiences. And they mentioned everything from racism to intimidation occurred while they were working.

As for DeGeneres, she’s had some claims held against her personally as well. Some folks claimed she’s completely unpleasant to work with and doesn’t hold her staff accountable.

“I think the executive producers surround her and tell her, ‘Things are going great, everybody’s happy,’ and she just believes that, but it’s her responsibility to go beyond that,” a former staff member told Buzzfeed.

DeGeneres has since faced the workplace allegations head-on. At the start of the new 2020 season of the show, she explained how she plans to do better.

“As we’ve grown exponentially, I’ve not been able to stay on top of everything and relied on others to do their jobs as they knew I’d want them done. Clearly, some didn’t,” DeGeneres said, according to E! News. “That will now change and I’m committed to ensuring this does not happen again.”

DeGeneres told Bethenny Frankel it’s good to ‘collapse sometimes’

Now that The Ellen DeGeneres Show is officially back, DeGeneres has plenty of stars dialing in virtually to talk about what’s new. And Frankel recently visited to discuss her breakup.

“Not everything works out,” Frankel explained to DeGeneres regarding her relationship with Paul Bernon. “We’ve had a great, great relationship, and I’m really happy, and not everything has to end badly. Some things just don’t continue. And it’s not negative, it’s just life.”

DeGeneres seemed happy that Frankel could go through her breakup peacefully. And she then seemed to get a bit personal.

“I think, sometimes, when you are in control of so many things in your life, it’s nice you can just collapse sometimes and let somebody else take care of you and make decisions and take over,” DeGeneres added. “That’s what we do in our lives all day long is run these big companies, and it’s nice to have somebody that you can trust to take care of you.”

Frankel applauded DeGeneres for being a ‘great example’

After DeGeneres explained how nice it is to have care and support at the end of the day, Frankel continued on by applauding DeGeneres for her own ability to sustain her relationship with Portia de Rossi.

“And you’re a great example of that, by the way,” Frankel added. “To have such a sustainable relationship for that long, two people in Hollywood, in the entertainment industry. It’d be admirable in any world, but it’s very admirable in the bubble that you live in. So, I applaud that.”

“I feel so fortunate,” DeGeneres added. “Believe me. To be with somebody for 16 years and still be as happy and crazy about each other as we are, I feel very blessed.”

It doesn’t seem like DeGeneres was her normal, chipper self when talking to Frankel, as they got deep about relationships. We’ll have to see if this approach ups the comedian’s sinking ratings.
