Throughout the eight Harry Potter movies, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint filmed countless scenes together. However, one of their most important scenes came in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2. After destroying a Horcrux in the Chamber of Secrets, the pair share a sweet kiss. Considering the characters were building up to this kiss for seven movies, it was imperative that the actors nailed the scene.

Emma Watson and Rupert Grint were both dreading having to kiss one another

Fans of Harry Potter were eager to see the famous Ron and Hermione kiss. But Grint and Watson (who portrayed Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger in the movies) were dreading filming the scene. Not only was there an enormous amount of pressure for them to get the scene right, but it was also extremely awkward for the actors.

Both Watson and Grint were dreading kissing one another. However, the Harry Potter stars’ dread manifested in different ways. In an interview with MTV, Watson revealed that she gave the kiss an aggressive edge at first. This, she shared, was a shock to her fellow scene partner.

“I ended up pouncing on Rupert,” Watson admitted. “I was so desperate to get it over. After the first take, he was like, ‘Whoa, there! Where did that come from?’ I was like, ‘Sorry!'” But why was Watson so intent on getting the scene done quickly? While the Little Women alum described Grint as “beautiful”, she admitted that she thought of him as a sibling. Thus, kissing him was something completely out of her comfort zone.

Grint and Watson thought of each other as siblings

“It’s purely the fact that he’s like my brother and we were both totally in the same boat,” Watson explained to Movies Ireland. “I’m sure he will tell you exactly the same thing. It was very strange and very weird. Believe me, we both wanted it to be over equally as much as the other. It’s honestly like kissing my brother. It was weird.”

Grint was quick to echo Watson’s sentiments. However, he blocked out most of the kissing scene from his memory. In an interview with PEOPLE, the Servant star shared his recollection of the experience. “I’ve known Emma since she was literally 9 years old, and we had this very brother-sister relationship,” Grint explained. “And it just felt very surreal. I have a memory of her face getting closer and closer. Like, ‘Oh my God.’ I can’t really remember anything apart from that.”

Ron and Hermoine’s kiss was captured in just five takes

Watson and Grint reportedly did just five takes of their memorable kissing scene. However, Grint shared that he was more than ready to stop after just one. “One take was enough,” Grint explained. “It was such a huge moment and there was so much expectation. Quite a lot of pressure actually.” Clearly, kissing one another was difficult for the Harry Potter stars. However, they managed to put their discomfort aside and make things work.
