Tracee Ellis Ross received another Emmy nomination for her role as Rainbow “Bow” Johnson in Black-ish. Since her first shot at the award in 2016, the Girlfriends alum has been nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series six times.

In September 2021, Ellis Ross lost the Emmy to Hacks star Jean Smart. However, she made a memorable appearance in the audience of the coronavirus (COVID-19)-friendly event.

Tracee Ellis Ross beamed at ‘The White Lotus’ star Jennifer Coolidge at Emmys 2021 

The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards aired on Sunday at 8 pm EST. During the event, several celebrities came to the Emmys as presenters. Once the show aired, Jennifer Coolidge appeared on stage to announce the winner for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series. While wearing a black dress with a dramatic cape, The White Lotus star told the nominees “you’ve overcome the incredible handicap in this business of being men.” 

When the camera panned to the audience during Coolidge’s appearance, Ellis Ross seemed enamored with the Legally Blonde alum. On Twitter, several fans pointed out that the Emmy nominee looked more than pleased to hear Coolidge speak. 

“Get you a person who looks at you like Tracee Ellis Ross looks at Jennifer Coolidge doing a bit #Emmys2021,” one Twitter user wrote. 

“Tracee Ellis Ross looks at #emmys presenter #jennifercoolidge the way I watch JC on #thewhitelotus,” another fan said on Twitter.

Tracee Ellis Ross fans want an Emmy win for the ‘Black-ish’ star

Ellis Ross returned to television with Black-ish in 2014. The comedy follows her and Anthony Anderson as a married couple raising children while living in the suburbs. For seven seasons, Ellis Ross has starred on the show. Additionally, she executive produced and starred in the short-lived Black-ish spinoff, Mixed-ish. 

In 2021, Ellis Ross received a nomination for her sixth Emmy since joining Black-ish. Since losing to Smart, some fans have had strong reactions on Twitter. Some fans thought Ellis Ross would take an award home on Sunday. However, others reminded the actor that she could win next year when Black-ish airs its final season in January 2022. 

How many awards has Ellis Ross won for ‘Black-ish’? 

Although Ellis Ross didn’t win an Emmy for Black-ish, the actor won big for her role on the show. In 2017, she won her first Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Television Series- Musical or Comedy. The historic accolade made Ellis Ross the first Black woman in over 20 years to receive the award.

“Women of color and colorful people whose stories, ideas, and thoughts are not always considered worthy and valid and important,” Ellis Ross said in her acceptance speech, per ABC. “I want you to know that I see you,” she said. “We see you.”

In addition to her Golden Globe, Ellis Ross earned seven NAACP Image Awards for playing Rainbow.
