‘Girls’ HBO: ‘Craziest’ Sex Scenes Often Involved Adam Driver
Lena Dunham and Judd Apatow’s HBO series Girls didn’t shy away from exploring the sex lives of four college 20-somethings, nor did it shy away from including Adam Driver in multiple sex scenes. In a 2017 interview, the cast of Girls relived their “craziest” sex scenes from the series, many of which involved the Star Wars actor. Here’s what they had to say.
‘Girls’ sex scenes were comfortable for Adam Driver
As Dunham’s on-screen boyfriend Adam Sackler, Driver’s role in Girls required plenty of sex scenes. According to Driver, they were never gratuitous and always furthered the story along.
“If [a sex scene is] for no purpose whatsoever, that would be very uncomfortable,” Driver admitted to the Irish Times in 2018. “But part of the storytelling is about our bodies and how they look … That’s my job, to tell the story.”

As Dunham revealed to Flare, some of her favorite sex scenes involved the House of Gucci actor, going so far as to call their work in season 1 “iconic.”
“We introduced the complex nature of their dynamic [that season],” she told the outlet. “Those really spoke to my experience of sex in my twenties and were very therapeutic for me, not to film, but to put on-screen and to have other women respond and go, ‘that’s my reality and it helped me to keep growing and developing.'”
Jemima Kirke said ‘the most fun’ sex scenes to shoot for ‘Girls’ involved Adam Driver
Like Dunham, Jemima Kirke’s most memorable sex scenes from the show involved Driver. Kirke played Jessa Johansson in the series, who ended up dating Adam Sackler for a period.
“The most fun ones to shoot, the best ones were with Adam because they were so easy,” Kirke told Flare. “Lena broke him in for the four seasons before! So by the time he got to me he was, you know, a man.” Kirke also said Driver was “a professional” by the time she had to film any sex scenes with him.
Zosia Mamet was sick for one sex scene in ‘Girls’
Zosia Mamet may not have had any sex scenes with Driver, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t have a story to share with Flare. Her “craziest” sex scene was when Shoshanna lost her virginity. “I was really sick and basically had no voice,” the actor admitted. On top of that, her co-star Alex [Karpovsky] who played Ray Ploshansky, had thrown his back out.
“It’s one of the reasons we were in that position,” Mamet revealed. “He couldn’t be in any other position because he basically couldn’t walk. And he had a heat pack under the blanket strapped to his stomach because he was in so much pain.”
Allison Williams details her best and worst sex scenes
Like Mamet, Allison Williams didn’t have any sex scenes with Driver, but she held the title for most sex scenes on Girls. One of her favorites was in season 4 when Marnie dated Desi (Ebon Moss-Bachrach).
“The most satisfied and ecstatic for Marnie was when she was bent over the counter with Desi, and it was also just like, ‘Oh, so Marnie is in a different place now,'” Williams said. “That was her best weird sex scene.”
Williams also detailed Marnie’s worst sex scene in the series. “Probably Elijah [Andrew Rannells], because it didn’t work out — and Marnie likes to finish things. That must have bothered her very, very much. It ruined her ego in a big way.”
