Gisele Bundchen rose to fame in the 1990s as a supermodel hailing from Brazil. She worked her way up to eventually becoming one of the highest-paid models in the world.

These days, Bundchen is no longer working the runway as often as before. Rather, she is focusing a lot of time on being a mother. Bundchen is actually a stepmom as well, though the 39-year-old beauty prefers to be called a “bonus mom” instead. Read on below to find out why.

Bundchen has been married to football star Tom Brady since 2009. The couple has two children together: Benjamin (b. 2009) and Vivian (b. 2012).

Additionally, the family is also joined by Jack, Brady’s son from his previous relationship with actress Bridget Moynahan. Jack was born in 2007 when Bundchen and Brady had already been together for about a year.

Gisele Bundchen does not want to be called a ‘stepmom’

Although Bundchen is technically a stepmom to Jack, she does not like to refer to herself as such. In a recent Q&A on her Instagram story, Bundchen told fans that she prefers to call herself a “bonus mom.”

“I don’t like the word ‘stepmom,'” Bundchen said. “I like the word ‘bonus mom’ because I feel like it’s a blessing in my life. I feel so lucky that I got to have an extra wonderful little angel in my life.”

This is similar to a sentiment that Bundchen shared in her interview with People in 2018. The model noted that when she discovered that her boyfriend shared a child with his ex, it “wasn’t the ideal situation for anyone.” The discovery nearly ended her relationship with Brady as well.

However, the three parents eventually managed to work things out between them. Instead of dwelling on the past, Bundchen is simply counting her blessings now.

“I’m so grateful for [Bridget],” Bundchen said. “I know this was hard, but I couldn’t imagine my life without [Jack]. I call him my bonus child.”

Bundchen also shared that, although she and Brady originally wanted to wait several years before having children together, they ultimately decided that it would be good for Jack to have siblings around his age, so the couple did not wait long before having children of their own.

What are Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady like as parents?

Bundchen and Brady have given some glimpses into their family over the years, and it seems that the couple is killing the parenting game.

For one thing, they are successfully co-parenting Jack with Moynahan. Both Bundchen and Brady are on good terms with Moynahan, and the three of them do not compete to see who is a “better” parent to Jack. Instead, they simply focus on making sure that he is surrounded by love and share his accomplishments with one another. A psychotherapist even said that it is the “perfect model” of how co-parenting should be.

Bundchen and Brady look like they are setting great examples for their kids in how to have a nice family dynamic. They spend a lot of time together, and the parents enjoy doing activities with the children. Brady once shared that he was initially upset to learn that his son Benjamin does not like football, but the quarterback eventually found other things to bond with Benjamin over.

Bundchen and Brady are also both into health and wellness, and they try to teach their kids about how to be healthy from a young age. The family often eat organic food that includes a lot of vegetables and grass-fed meat. With parents like Bundchen and Brady, it seems like their children will have bright futures ahead of them.
