Good Witch looks a little different this season. Actress Bailee Madison, who had played Grace Russell on the Hallmark Channel show since 2015, left the series at the end of season 5. Her character — the daughter of the titular “Good Witch” Cassie Nightingale (Catherine Bell) — graduated from high school and headed off to college in the season finale. Madison explained that although she was sad to leave the show behind, she was ready to take on new challenges in her career. And while there’s a chance she might be back for a special appearance, the show is moving on without her.

But what about Grace’s friend and eventual step-sibling Nick Radford (Rhys Matthew Bond)? He also graduated from high school last season. But unlike Grace, Nick hasn’t completely left Middleton behind.

This season of Good Witch will focus more on storylines involving the show’s adult characters. The show is “a little more grown up,” Bell said in an interview with MediaVillage, with fewer teen-focused storylines. But that doesn’t mean we won’t get updates on what some of those younger characters are up to.

Though Nick is now away at school, he returned home in the Good Witch Season 6 premiere to visit with his dad Sam (James Denton) and stepmom Cassie. Cassie could immediately sense that something was up in Nick’s life, and quickly guessed that he had a girlfriend. Of course, her intuition was right on target, and Nick admitted he’s seeing someone named Stella.

‘Good Witch’: Why Did Bailee Madison Leave the Hallmark Show?

Nick will soon be back in Middleton again. Radford will appear in the May 24 episode of Good Witch, “The Dinner,” when his character comes home for the weekend. But it turns out all is not going smoothly at college. He’s struggling a bit academically, but he’s afraid to confess his difficulties to his dad.

As Nick adjusts to college, Middleton’s favorite couples are dealing with problems of their own as they come together for a progressive dinner that exposes tension in their relationships. And when a health crisis arises during the party, one Middleton resident’s fate is up in the air.

Also in the episode, Cassie is thinking about her next adventure as a empty nester, Martha (Catherine Disher) tries her hand as an advice columnist, and Donovan (Marc Bendavid) fears he and Abigail (Sarah Power) are on different paths when she reveals her dream of living abroad. Meanwhile, Stephanie’s (Kylee Evans) friendly relationship with her ex-husband (Sandy Jobin-Bevans) causes issues in her relationship with Adam (Scott Cavalheiro) and Joy (Katherine Barrell) butts heads with a carpenter.

Good Witch airs Sundays at 9/8c on Hallmark Channel.
