Dan and Blair’s love story on ‘Gossip Girl’

In season 1, Dan describes Blair as “everything I hate about the Upper East Side, distilled into one 95-pound doe-eyed package of girly evil.”

Meanwhile, Blair will throw nasty remarks Dan’s way whenever given the chance, because he dares to be from *gasp* Brooklyn.

Dan was able to make Blair happy when the two of them eventually got involved with one another in a romantic relationship. The characters had excellent banter, shared a mutual love of literature and art, and seemed to make each other beam with delight. There were newfound sparkles in their eyes that we as viewers had never seen before.

All seemed perfect until the writers decided to play it safe by putting Blair back with Chuck, and Dan back with Serena. Still, we will fondly remember the glimmer of hope we felt when we saw Dan and Blair thriving in their newfound romance. Turns out we weren’t alone in this desire for team “Dair” because Badgley felt it too.

Penn Badgley thinks Dan and Blair are ‘soulmates’

“Soulmate” is a strong word that most people don’t use lightly. Yet it is the exact word that Badgley used when describing Dan and Blair’s relationship with one another. In an interview with E!, the actor was quoted saying:

“I think Dan and Blair will always have feelings for each other in a certain capacity… I think Dan is unfortunate in that he loves Blair and I think Blair is his soulmate, but he is not Blair’s soulmate. You know what I mean?”

He also went on to praise Meester as an actor, saying, “I’ve never enjoyed any scenes on the show as much as those scenes with Leighton Meester… strictly as an actor, those scenes with Blair are the best.”

But it turns out the You actor isn’t the only one who thinks Dan and Blair have some serious potential. In an extended season 5 interview with Meester, she stated her thoughts on Dan and Blair’s unlikely relationship.

“I think it’s cute,” she admitted. “Blair is her real self with Dan.”

Penn Badgley and Leighton Meester both struggled on the set of ‘Gossip Girl’

During the reign of Gossip Girl, the actors on The CW soap opera eventually felt burned out after churning out at least twenty episodes a year. Badgley has confessed to GQ that he had a bit of a sour approach to being on the series and confessed to being “far too judgmental” about Gossip Girl. He said, “We should always appreciate the audience’s intelligence. This is what I probably didn’t do well in Gossip Girl. In Gossip Girl, I was far too judgemental of everything that was happening, because I was young.”

Meanwhile, Meester admits to her struggles as well. In interviews, the actress admitted the series shaped her into becoming the person that she is and she is grateful for the opportunities it gave her, but Meester doesn’t feel any sense of nostalgia for the show.

Still, both seem grateful for all the doors Gossip Girl opened for them.
