‘Grey’s Anatomy’ is known for building complicated relationships

Grey’s Anatomy premiered on television in 2005. Although the show was an ensemble right from the start, featuring many characters, Meredith Grey, played by Ellen Pompeo, is the beating heart of the series.

Grey’s struggle to find work/life balance is one that many viewers can relate to. Over the years, fans have watched as Meredith Grey first finds love with Derek Shepherd, played by Patrick Dempsey. In Season 14 of Grey’s Anatomy, Meredith Grey surprised fans when she kissed Andrew DeLuca, proving that she might be willing to give the younger man a chance. Eventually, in the following season, the two start dating, with Meredith choosing DeLuca over Lincoln.

Their relationship was fraught with drama from the start, with Meredith committing insurance fraud and DeLuca choosing to take the heat for her, to keep her from going to jail. DeLuca is cleared after Meredith details her fraud, but the two aren’t truly able to reconcile their love affair. Even fans had a hard time getting on board with “MerLuca,” claiming that the two were ill-matched and that DeLuca couldn’t stack up to Derek Shepherd, Meredith’s great love.

Fans recently discussed how Meredith knew about DeLuca’s death

In March 2021, Andrew DeLuca was killed off when he suffered cardiac arrest as the result of a stabbing. At the time, Meredith Grey was in a COVID-19-induced coma. Still, when she eventually awoke, it was revealed that she already knew about DeLuca’s death.

Recently, some fans on Reddit discussed how she could have known the tragic news, with one fan writing “People in comas and can hear often. Plus, Mer is smart…The only people she saw there were dead or dying apart from people telling her she was needed back.”

Another fan noted how the fact that she saw DeLuca on her dream beach while she was in a coma, posting “everyone important to her came to her room when she woke up, and he wasn’t there. It would be pretty easy to piece it all together. Seeing him in her coma beach with his mom, everyone around her talking about what happened when she was comatose, combined with him not being present when she woke up, makes it pretty obvious to her.”
