It will be a while until people can sit and watch Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. While they wait, they can tune in to the holiday special for the franchise. The special will premiere on Disney+ in 2022.

People have received more pieces of information as the release date approaches. They know that one of the characters is likely to die in the Guardians of the Galaxy sequel. Some fans would not be surprised if Rocket goes, but they do not want him to die.

Fans first see Rocket appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Guardians of the Galaxy, and Bradley Cooper offers a distinct voice. He is friends with a tree-like character named Groot, and the pair team up with a few other people. Similar to the comics, Rocket is a genetically enhanced raccoon that worked as a freelance mercenary.

Rocket has great durability that makes it hard for him to die. He returns as a major character in the sequel and Infinity War. Since he does not fade after the snap, he has prominent screen time in Endgame and helps save the day.

In the comics, Rocket goes on more adventures across the galaxy. For example, he and Groot visit a place called Halfworld sometime after the Guardians disband. The character also meets his end in the comics. In the Heroes Reborn universe, Rocket eventually dies during a fight.

Rocket goes on a mission to take down Doctor Spectrum. However, things do not go as planned, and Spectrum shoves him into a supernova.

Fans are not ready to let go of Rocket yet

The fans who have read the comics probably will not be surprised if Rocket dies in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. However, it does not mean that some of them are ready for the possibility. On Reddit, someone posted a link to an article about how James Gunn teased a character’s death.

Several people guessed who might die in the upcoming installment. One person suggested that it could be Drax since the actor no longer is interested in the role. Meanwhile, others speculate that Rocket may die instead. Some expressed that they want him to live so that they could see him and Groot more.

“God I hope it isn’t Rocket. Even if there are no more Guardians movies, I’d love to see Rocket and Groot pop up,” one user commented. Others replied in agreement.

They would rather Quill or Drax bite the dust instead. Some fans argued that Marvel Studios does not have to worry about Rocket aging since he is CGI. Therefore, other Marvel Cinematic Universe content can keep reusing the character, and it would not make sense to kill him.

Fans anticipate Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and they can expect to see their favorite characters return. The main cast will reprise their roles, and some of the supporting characters will make an appearance. Karen Gillan and Sean Gunn will also come back as Nebula and Kraglin, respectively.

As for the story, Gunn confirmed that Rocket plays a large part in the story. The movie might complete storylines for multiple characters. It could mean the end of the current version of the space-traveling team.

The film will take place after Endgame, so viewers can expect to see the characters run into the past version of Gamora. The interactions between her and Quill could be more antagonistic than romantic.

The production of the movie faced several obstacles that delayed the start of filming. The current release date of the sequel is 2023.
