Hawkeye hit Disney+ on Nov. 24. And with its first two episodes, the Marvel series set the tone for Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner) and Kate Bishop’s (Hailee Steinfeld) first adventure as a superhero team. However, in episode 2, “Hide and Seek,” fans spotted a curious figure lurking in the background. And some think it could be Kit Harington’s Eternals character, Dane Whitman.

‘Eternals’ set up Dane Whitman’s future in the Marvel Cinematic Universe

In Eternals, Harington plays the Marvel character, Dane Whitman. The boyfriend of Sersi (Gemma Chan), Whitman, eventually learns the truth about the Eternals and their cosmic rivalry with The Deviants.

Toward the end of the film, Dane tries to reveal a secret to Sersi during a walk in the park. But just as he’s about to tell her, Sersi is taken hostage by Arishem the Judge.

In the movie’s second post-credits scene, Dane retreats to an old estate where he comes upon a magical sword. In the background, the voice of Mahershala Ali’s upcoming MCU character, Blade, asks Dane if he’s ready to take the sword.

The artifact Dane is dealing with is most likely the Ebony Blade. When he wields the sentient sword in Marvel comics, Dane gains superpowers and turns into the superhero Black Night. So, presumably, the Eternals post-credits scene is setting up Dane’s future as the Black Night in the MCU.

Some ‘Hawkeye’ fans think they spotted Kit Harington’s Dane Whitman in Episode 2

Hawkeye premiered almost a month after Eternals. And in its second episode, fans think they may have spotted Harington as Dane Whitman. In one of the episode’s final scenes, Clint gets kidnapped by the Tracksuit Mafia and is taken back to their lair. As they begin to interrogate him, Kate crashes through the ceiling and is tied up and interrogated with Clint.

Meanwhile, in the background, in the sea of tracksuits, a man wearing a long tan coat and scarf carefully watches the interrogation and comes down closer to Clint before the episode ends.  The camera does not close in on the man’s face, but he looks a lot like Harington from afar.

“IS THAT KIT HARRINGTON I SEE?” one Twitter fan wrote. “JON SNOW?!? MY MAN???? YESSSSS.”

While we won’t know exactly who that character is until episode 3, the likelihood is that it’s not Harington’s Dane Whitman. It actually appears to be Fra Fee, the actor who’s set to play Tracksuit Mafia member Kazi in the Marvel series.

If not in ‘Hawkeye,’ Marvel fans can still expect to see more of Kit Harington in the MCU

It doesn’t look like Harington is making any cameos on Hawkeye. But the actor confirmed his future in the MCU and said he’s ready for anything the studio throws his way.

“There is no roadmap that I know of at the moment. If they have ideas about where my character goes, I’m not privy to it,” Harington told The Hollywood Reporter. “All I know is that when I came on board, they said, ‘There’s a really interesting future for this character, and if you read up about him, there are many different ways we could go with him.’ And that intrigues me.”

“I’m fascinated by the idea that any character in any story is driven by some addiction to something,” he added. “And with [Dane Whitman], it’s very palpable that this sword, this blade, has an addictive pull on him, and I find that really interesting.”
