Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper series will comprise five volumes in total, but only four of them are published as of this writing. The initial book was released back in 2018, introducing Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson for the first time.

Since then, Oseman has published three more graphic novels, each one building on the LGBTQ romance established in the first. The author is also publishing a spinoff called the Heartstopper Yearbook, which debuts on Oct. 13, 2022.

And although there are a few minor differences between the graphic novels and the Netflix adaptation, the latter sticks pretty closely to the source material. Reading the first four installments will take fans through the beginnings of Charlie and Nick’s relationship. They’ll also offer insight into where things are headed. And come 2023, we’ll have an idea of how their story ends.

Alice Oseman will finish the graphic novel series with a fifth volume

Those looking to dive into the graphic novels that inspired Netflix’s Heartstopper can power through most of the volumes right now. They’re fast-paced and have plenty of fluff, making them easy to fly through in one sitting. However, Charlie and Nick’s story has yet to be completed.

Alice Oseman will round out the Heartstopper series with a fifth volume, currently slated to arrive in February 2023. With any luck, fans will also get another season of the TV show sometime in the next year or two. After all, the Netflix series has plenty more material to work with.

Now that we’ve established how many volumes of Alice Oseman’s Heartstopper there are, let’s explore how far into the graphic novels the Netflix series took us. The first season chronicled the blossoming feelings between Charlie and Nick, concluding with the latter coming out as bisexual to his mother.

With that in mind, the Netflix show has already covered the first two volumes of Oseman’s graphic novels. The second installment ends with the same scene between Nick and his mom.

If the show does get renewed for another season, it’s likely to tackle volumes three and four. That means viewers will travel to France with Charlie and Nick. They’ll also see them grappling with taking their relationship public.

Hopefully, we get to see those events brought to life on the small screen. Ideally, Netflix will adapt the entirety of the graphic novels, including the forthcoming fifth one. Only time will tell if it actually happens.

In the meantime, Heartstopper Season 1 is currently streaming on Netflix.
