Netflix’s announcement that Heartstopper Season 2 has been greenlighted, along with a third season, has fans chiming in on what they want to see. The series follows the main characters and storylines from Alice Oseman’s graphic novels. While fans fell in love with Imogen Heaney (Rhea Norwood), she does not exist in the novels. Fans want to see Imogen’s story develop in Heartstopper Season 2 and get a romance.

Imogen has a longtime crush on Nick Nelson

Heartstopper tells an optimistic coming-of-age LGBTQ story of falling in love, discovering one’s sexuality, coming to terms with it, and friendship. As Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) starts a new school term, his new deskmate is rugby player Nick Nelson (Kit Connor). Thus begins a sweet and telling love story as Charlie is openly gay and Nick realizes his feelings for Charlie.

But intermixed in their story is Imogen. She is Nick’s longtime friend and the only female in the friend group. Her crush on Nick is obvious to everyone, and they often tease Nick about it. In Heartstopper, Imogen looks for ways to flirt with Nick, unaware of his growing feelings for Charlie.

Imogen does not come off as “evil” and is a sweet and bubbly girl. When she convinces Nick to go on a date, he ditches her to attend Charlie’s birthday party. He soon tells the truth about his crush on Charlie, and Imogen is understanding and supports him. She even becomes part of Charlie’s friend group and explains she is an “ally” to their love story.

Fans of the Netflix series will be surprised to learn that Imogen does not exist in the original graphic novels. Speaking to Hello!, Oseman explains she wanted Imogen to be Nick’s friend who was not “one of the lads.” She also explains Imogen added the needed sprinkle of drama for Heartstopper.

Fans want to see Imogen find her own love and a girlfriend in ‘Heartstopper’ Season 2

Imogen not being in the original novels is one of the discrepancies between the series. A fan on Twitter who saw the series first exclaims, “I watched heartstopper and loved so i started reading the comics, IMOGEN DONT EXIST IN THE COMICS???!?!?!??? WHY NO ONE TOLD ME THAT.”

But fans have welcomed Imogen with open arms and want to see her flourish in Heartstopper Season 2. A fan on Twitter explains, “netflix: heartstopper will have 2 more seasons. me: so what you’re saying is that Imogen will get a girlfriend?” Many fans want to see the character have her own love story and feel it is well deserved.

As Heartstopper Season 2 will likely explore the continuing storyline of the characters going to Paris, one fan on Twitter has an idea of who to introduce to the series for Imogen. The fan explains, “Hear Me Out . they introduce Sahar in s2 and Make her Imogen’s love interest ….” Fans of the series might not know who Sahar is.

According to the graphic novels, Sahar Zahid is a supporting character. She is best friends with Elle (Yasmin Finney), Tao (Will Gao), Charlie, and a majority of the other characters. She is described as being of Arabian descent and incredibly smart, detail-oriented, and kind. Sahar is also one of the original novel characters that did not appear in Heartstopper. She is described as being part of the Paris group.

Fans have high hopes for Heartstopper Season 2. Oseman expressed her plans and desires for the new season if Netflix approved it. The plans include new romances and new characters besides what could be Sahar. The writer explained the graphic novels have a love story between Charlie’s art teacher Mr. Ajayi (Fisayo Akinade), and science teacher, Youssef Farouk.

The novels also include more of Charlie and Nick’s families than what was seen in Heartstopper. A fan on Twitter explains Nick’s brother David, his dad, and Charlie’s grandparents will have to be cast for Heartstopper Season 2. Oseman also revealed she wants to explore mental health themes in the following seasons.
