‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ is returning to Disney+ for season 2

They’re all in this together, even if some characters may be away this season. Now a year after the release of season 1, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series season 2 debuts on Disney’s streaming platform.

The first episode of season 2 premieres on May 14, featuring returning cast members like Olivia Rodrigo and Joshua Bassett. The duo even appeared on the original song, “Even When/The Best Part.”

“‘Even When/The Best Part’ is a truly special duet,” Bassett told Billboard in a statement. “I played guitar when we filmed it, and sang along to Olivia’s vocals in my ear while she shot her side separately! I’m stoked to see how it all came together and really think people are gonna love it! Hands down: one of my favorites this season!”

East High School is bitter rivals with North High School, as is Miss Jenn with the school’s drama teacher

In Carlos’ High School Musical-themed board game, the Wildcats competed against the West High School Knights. In season 2 of this spinoff series, though, the characters will compete against North High School.

It’s this high school that has Zack, Miss Jenn’s ex-boyfriend, as their drama teacher. Portrayed by dancer Derek Hough, this character appears in the teaser trailer, throwing shade at East High’s “adorable” production of High School Musical.

With a fire under her butt, and the theater now fixed from fire damage, Miss Jenn announced that their school would be putting on a production of Beauty and the Beast and entering a drama competition along the way.

Although the cast list has not officially been announced, fans learned that Ricky will be portraying the beast and Carlos will act as Lumiere. Now enrolled in another drama school, it’s unclear if Nini will star as the title character from this musical, Belle.
