How Many Awards Did BTS Win at the 2021 MTV VMAs?

The 2021 MTV Video Music Awards took place on Sept. 12. At the awards show, BTS were nominated for Group of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best K-pop, Song of the Summer, Best Choreography, and Best Editing. BTS ended up taking home the awards for Group of the Year, Best K-pop, and Song of the Summer at the 2021 MTV VMAs.

On Sept. 12, the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards aired on MTV. At the awards show, BTS were nominated for seven awards: Group of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop, Best K-pop, Song of the Summer, Best Choreography, and Best Editing. So how many awards did BTS take home at the 2021 MTV VMAs?

BTS won three awards at the 2021 MTV VMAs

Out of the seven categories they were nominated in at the 2021 MTV VMAs, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook of BTS won Group of the Year, Best K-pop, and Song of the Summer.

In the Best K-pop category, BTS were nominated for “Butter,” (G)I-DLE were nominated for “Dumdi Dumdi,” Monsta X earned a nomination for “Gambler,” SEVENTEEN were nominated for “Ready to love,” and Twice received a nomination for “Alcohol-Free.”

For Group of the Year, BTS were nominated alongside Blackpink, CNCO, Foo Fighters, Jonas Brothers, Maroon 5,
Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak of Silk Sonic, and Twenty One Pilots.

The Song of the Summer category featured 16 nominees including BTS’ song “Butter,” Billie Eilish with “Happier Than Ever,” Doja Cat’s “Need to Know,” Dua Lipa for “Levitating,” Ed Sheeran’s “Bad Habits,” Lil Nas X and Jack Harlow with “Industry Baby,” and Lizzo’s song “Rumors” featuring Cardi B.

The band did not win in the other nominated categories

Six songs were nominated in the Song of the Year category. Olivia Rodrigo was nominated for her song “Drivers License” and took home the award. In addition to Rodrigo, 24kGoldn and Iann Dior, BTS, Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak of Silk Sonic, Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, and Dua Lipa were nominated for Song of the Year. BTS received a nomination for their 2020 single “Dynamite.”

In the Best Pop category, Justin Bieber won for his song “Peaches” featuring Daniel Caesar and Giveon. He was nominated alongside BTS with “Butter,” Ariana Grande for “Positions,” Billie Eilish with “Therefore I Am,” Harry Styles with “Treat People With Kindness,” Olivia Rodrigo for “Good 4 U,” Shawn Mendes with “Wonder,” and Taylor Swift for “Willow.”

Harry Styles’ song “Treat People With Kindness” won Best Choreography, and Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak of Silk Sonic won Best Editing with “Leave the Door Open.”

Did BTS perform at the MTV VMAs?

Due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, BTS attended the MTV VMAs remotely and submitted pre-recorded acceptance speeches.

“Thank you VMAs for the Group of the Year award,” Jimin said in BTS’ acceptance speech for Group of the Year.

RM continued, “ARMY this is all possible thanks to you guys.”

“We love you and we miss you,” Suga added.

While the band sent in a remote performance of their 2020 hit “Dynamite” at the 2020 MTV VMAs, BTS did not perform “Dynamite” or their recent single “Butter” at the 2021 awards show.
