The program has gained more viewers because of its recent 12 Days of Pol during the holiday season and its availability now on the Disney Plus streaming service.

Find out more about this gem of a show, plus the many seasons it’s been on the air.

How long ‘The Incredible Dr. Pol’ has been on NatGeo WILD

The Incredible Dr. Pol has been on the network since 2011. But the 77-year-old doctor’s story began on his family’s Netherlands dairy farm, where he was raised to care for animals. Now practicing veterinary medicine for over 40 years, Dr. Pol’s office is located in Weidman, Michigan, and is managed by his wife, Diane.

The work of his son, Charles, in the entertainment industry led to the show’s launch following Dr. Pol in his day-to-day treatment of large farm animals as well as domestic pets.

The doctor told Today’s Veterinary Practice in 2012 more about how filming impacts his practice.

“We are very busy in the practice and having all the filmmakers around slows me down some but after a while a routine develops,” he said. “It is amazing how small a portion of each day is used in the show, so “reality” is still heavily edited and made entertaining. Without the film crew there, the day is smoother because we are not held up by interviews with the clients but otherwise it is business as usual.”

The show’s fans love to tweet about it

True fans love watching Dr. Pol untwist a cow’s stomach on any animal, but what they love even more is tweeting about the show. There is no shortage of tweets about Dr. Pol, Dr. Brenda, Dr. Nicole, and the various treatments being done.

One fan, who has clearly seen more than five episodes, tweeted recently to guess what a sick animal’s diagnosis might be.

“On @DrPol it’s probably Choke. Or Polio. Or an LDA [Left displaced abomasum]. Or milk fever. Or Parvovirus. Or a vitamin deficiency. Whatever it is, Docs at [Pol Veterinary Hospital] can handle it. #DrPol #natgeowild”

‘The Incredible Dr. Pol’ just started its 16th season

The latest season, the sixteenth, recently premiered on Jan. 11. The series has two seasons every year, for a total of sixteen through this month. Viewers can’t seem to get enough of the ins and outs of daily life at Pol Veterinary Clinic, watching the extraordinary staff including Dr. Pol, Dr. Brenda, Dr. Nicole, his son, Charles, and Dr. Pol’s wife and office manager Diane, taking care of animals and of business.

Another fan, anticipating the latest season, said, “I found you Dr. Pol in Jan. 2019 searching channels! I’ve not been the same since!!! You, Diane, & your entire staff are remarkable! I wish you were closer to me in Cincinnati, Ohio! My “kids” (cats) would love you all! Thank you for a fantastic & educational show!”

It’s official, Dr. Pol is practically a rock star. Tune in to new episodes on NatGeo WILD Saturdays at 9:00 PM.
