Elizabeth Taylor — the five-time Academy Award nominee and two-time winner for Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf and BUtterfield 8 — is well-known for her unparalleled film and TV career. However, the actor’s romantic life often garnered more attention than her on-screen appearances. Taylor was married several times in her life — and even divorced and remarried the same man.

The classic Hollywood actor was married eight times to seven different men — Conrad Hilton Jr., Michael Wilding, Mike Todd, Eddie Fisher, Richard Burton (twice,), John Warner, and Larry Fortensky (in that order). Some relationships gained more public fascination and tabloid attention than others — but all are (at least decently) documented.

Elizabeth Taylor was married to Conrad Hilton Jr. from 1950 to 1951

Taylor married Conrad Hilton Jr in 1950. The man was an American socialite and hotel heir, as indicated by the famous last name. The two were only married for one year, and Hilton Jr. married Patricia McClintock in 1958.

The ‘Cleopatra’ star was married to Michael Wilding from 1952 to 1957

Michael Wilding was a television, stage, and film actor known for a series of films made with Anne Neagle, as well as for two films he made with the psychological thriller visionary Alfred Hitchcock. Wilding starred in Stage Fright, Under Capricorn, Spring in Park Lane, and more.

Taylor wed Mike Todd in 1957

Todd was an American theatre and film producer known for Around the World in 80 Days and This Is Cinerama. He was only married to Taylor for about one year (until 1958).

The ‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ actor and Eddie Fisher were married from 1959 to 1964

Eddie Fisher was one of the most popular singers around in the early 1950s. Fisher is known for hits including “Any Time,” “I Need You Now,” “Lady of Spain,” and more. He was married to Taylor for a longer time than many of her other husbands.

Richard Burton was Elizabeth Taylor’s longest romance: they were together from 1964 to 1974 and 1975 to 1976

Elizabeth Taylor and Tim Burton were scrutinized publicly, as their romance began while both were still married. They came to be known as “The Battling Burtons” due to their combative romance. Burton was a Welsh actor who rose to fame on the back of his recognizable, baritone voice.

Following her relationship with Burton, Elizabeth Taylor married John Warner (an attorney) and Larry Fortensky (a construction worker). She was with Wagner from ’76 to ’82 and with Fortensky from ’91 to ’96.
