What to know about BTS on ‘MTV Unplugged’

MTV Unplugged showcases artists putting on unique performances of their classic songs. With their special, the members of BTS plan to bring their own distinct style to the MTV Unplugged franchise. The episode will air on MTV in the U.S. on Feb. 23 at 9 p.m. EST.

According to a press release, the septet’s MTV Unplugged appearance will feature “never-before-seen versions of the group’s most career-defining hits and songs from their latest album BE (Essential Edition), in intimate settings.”

What songs will the band perform?

On Feb. 9, a trailer was released for the MTV Unplugged episode. BTS’ song “Dynamite” can be heard throughout the trailer.

A voiceover also says, “For one dynamite night on MTV, we’ve got BTS. Hear their hits like you’ve never heard them before.”

“Dynamite” became BTS’ first song to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Korean band also earned a 2021 Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for the song. Because of this, it makes sense that the group will perform “Dynamite” on MTV Unplugged.

The trailer teases multiple performances with Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook. In one scene, the members wear brown suits while sitting in a room styled like a living room. Another scene shows BTS wearing white suits performing in a room with records hanging on the wall.

On Feb. 19, MTV released a sneak peek of the band performing “Life Goes On,” the lead single from their album BE. The song debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and BE debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

BTS originally released BE (Deluxe Edition) on Nov. 20, 2020. The album features eight tracks: “Life Goes On,” “Fly To My Room,” “Blue & Grey,” “Skit,” “Telepathy,” “Dis-ease,” “Stay,” and “Dynamite.”

The band released a new version of the album titled BE (Essential Edition) on Feb. 19.
