Ina Garten makes breakfast entertaining simple

Garten always has a plan when entertaining and that applies to breakfast as well. It’s not generally as involved as throwing a dinner party but there is the possibility of overcomplicating breakfast or brunch.

The Food Network host shared her easy tips during an episode of Barefoot Contessa called “Breakfast Party,” which featured her simple scrambled eggs.

“One of my favorite times to entertain is breakfast,” she explained. “All you need is a plan, simple menu — you’re good to go.”

Garten shared one easy strategy for breakfast entertaining — making some things in advance. “I love giving a party for breakfast, but who wants to get up at 4:00 in the morning and bake? Not me,” she said. “What I learned when I ran Barefoot Contessa is I can make biscuits the night before and put them in the oven in the morning and they’re fantastic.”

Her buttermilk cheddar biscuits are simple enough to prep ahead so they’re ready to bake before the guests arrive.

Ina Garten shared the ‘key’ to perfect scrambled eggs

Garten included scrambled eggs on her party menu because they’re so simple and can feed a crowd. She cracked 10 eggs into a bowl and added half and half, salt, and pepper. Garten whisked the ingredients together and added chopped scallions, dill, and parsley.

The Barefoot Contessa star added butter to a saute pan and shared an anecdote about having a breakfast party where she made an omelet for each person. “It was like 20 people. I spent the entire time making omelets,” she said … That was a really bad idea.”

After the butter melted, Garten added the eggs. “The key to scrambled eggs is actually doing it very slowly,” she explained.

“It actually makes the eggs really tough” to cook them quickly over high heat. “Protein, when it cooks at a high temperature, gets really tough so you want to cook it at a really low temperature,” Garten said.

She cooked the eggs at medium-low temperature. “Scrambled eggs are perfect for breakfast because it just takes a few minutes to make and then you can serve a huge big bowl of scrambled eggs and everybody has a good time,” she shared.

The Food Network host had another easy tip for cooking scrambled eggs — Garten used a rubber spatula to fold the eggs over while cooking.

Garten’s scrambled eggs recipe earns rave reviews

There are many glowing reviews for Garten’s scrambled eggs recipe on the Food Network site.

“Honestly the best egg recipe I’ve ever had,” one person commented. “You don’t even have to follow the ingredients, just add the eggs and a dairy, some seasoning of your choice, and use the cooking method. Throw it on some sourdough and wait for the best eggs you’ve ever eaten. No joke.”

Another reviewer shared, “Delicious recipe and so easy too! I’ve cooked scrambled eggs forever, it seems. I can’t believe I never thought to put fresh herbs in them. Yum! Thanks for the tip about cooking the eggs at a low heat. I tend to cook them med/high and then they would get brown and stiff. Now they cook perfectly! Thanks Ina!”
