Neil Patrick Harris has been in the entertainment business for more than three decades. He became a household name when he played the title character in the TV show Doogie Howser, M.D. After that series went off the air in 1993, Harris continued to have a successful career on the small screen as well as the big screen and on Broadway. He’s earned a Tony Award, numerous Primetime Emmy Awards, and a few Screen Actors Guild Awards too. Some of the actor‘s credits include How I Met Your Mother, American Horror Story: Freak Show, Gone Girl, and the stage production Hedwig and the Angry Inch.

Harris and David Burtka began dating in 2004, were married in 2014, and welcomed twins Harper and Gideon in 2010. The couple has lived in some lovely homes together and just sold a brownstone in the Harlem section of New York City for a record-setting $7.1 million. Here’s a look inside Burtka and Harris’ former Harlem townhouse.

The sale of Burtka and Harris’ Harlem house is a record

Harris and Burtka purchased the Harlem townhome, which was previously a bed-and-breakfast, for just over $3.5 million back in 2013. The brownstone is 20 feet wide and has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, and 8,000 square feet of living space spread out over five floors.

Under Harris and Burtka’s direction, the house underwent meticulous renovations by interior designer Trace Lehnhoff and architect Jeffery Povero. The abode has 18 rooms in all with restored woodwork throughout and 12-foot high ceilings. It now has all new plumbing and appliances too.

Burtka, who is a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef and worked at Mario Batali’s Babbo restaurant, oversaw all the kitchen renovations. It has a massive island, a farmhouse sink, two six-burner Wolf ranges, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and freezer, a separate beverage refrigerator, a wine refrigerator, and an oversized pantry. One of Harris’ personal touches is the home’s top-floor office that opens via a secret door when the eyeball of a magician on a poster is pressed.

Months after listing their pad for $7.3 million, TopTenRealEstateDeals.com reported that it sold for $7.1 million. That amount is a record sale for the historic neighborhood.

Harris and Burtka previously had a home in Sherman Oaks, California

Before making the brownstone their primary residence, the pair lived in a Sherman Oaks, California, home while Harris was still filming How I Met Your Mother.

According to the Los Angeles Times, the 4,191-square-foot house boasts six bedrooms and five bathrooms. It also has a large backyard with a pool, a built-in pizza oven, and an outdoor shower.

The family relocated to the East Coast when Harris began starring in Hedwig and the Angry Inch. In 2014, they sold their Golden State compound for around $2.9 million, per TMZ.
