There’s romance in the air on the set of the Chicago franchise. Jesse Lee Soffer, who plays Jay Halstead on Chicago P.D., and Torrey DeVitto, who plays Dr. Natalie Manning on Chicago Med, are a real-life couple. Soffer confirmed their relationship in September 2018 in an interview with US Weekly.

“It’s great, it’s awesome,” Soffer told the magazine.

DeVitto had similar things to say about her boyfriend.

“It’s great, we felt like we were out in the open. It’s really great,” DeVitto told the magazine a few days later. “Everything’s going so well. I’m really happy, [the] happiest I’ve ever been.”

Soffer and DeVitto’s romance reportedly blossomed after they met while appearing together on the Chicago franchise. Previously, Soffer played played Will Munson on the soap opera As the World Turns. DeVitto is best known for her role as Melissa Hastings on Pretty Little Liars.

It’s not clear how long the two have been dating, but DeVitto posted a picture of them together on a trip to Scotland in early August with the caption “Scotland. #tbt.” A few weeks later, Soffer shared another photo from their trip to Scotland.

This isn’t Soffer’s first on-set romance

This isn’t the first time that Soffer has dated one of his co-stars. He and fellow Chicago P.D. actor Sophia Bush were together for two years before breaking up in June 2015. The two also played a couple on screen. Bush left Chicago P.D. in 2017.

DeVitto was previously married to Paul Wesley. Both she and Wesley appeared on the CW series The Vampire Diaries. They divorced in 2013.

While Soffer and DeVitto work on the same series of shows, they don’t spend too much time together on screen. “We’re barely on set together,” Soffer told US Weekly. “He’s always working with Will. When I’m working with Will, it’s a different thing than when she is!” On Chicago Med, DeVitto’s character is in a relationship with Will Halstead, the brother of Soffer’s Chicago P.D. character. Fans have dubbed the pairing “Manstead.”

DeVitto has previously said she urged the show’s writers to not pursue a possible romance between Manning and Soffer’s character. “First of all, people are going to hate Natalie because everybody loves Manstead together,” she told TV Line in January 2018. “And also, if you ever want Manstead together in the future, you can’t have her dating his brother now.’”

What the couple has to say about their relationship

Soffer and DeVitto haven’t said too much publicly about their relationship, though in an interview with US Weekly, DeVitto said they liked the simple things in life.

“Honestly, watch a really good show and just be at home, I think that’s what’s really great. We’re both equal parts homebodies,” she said of how they like to spend their time.

In December, Soffer used Instagram to promote one of DeVitto’s projects. He urged fans to follow his lead and donate to Saving Daisy, a film about sexual assault and PTSD that DeVitto is producing.

Chicago Med, Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. air Wednesdays on NBC starting at 8/7c.
