Since their 19 Kids and Counting Days, the Duggars have been no strangers to controversy. From their unusually large household to their ultra-strict rules regarding dating and what they wear, we continue to watch the huge family through TLC’s Counting On to see what the eldest Duggar kids are doing next. And it seems Jill Duggar’s husband, Derick Dillard, continually knows how to make a splash.

Derick has given the Duggar family a lot of grief over the years due to his postings online. And now fans are beginning to think Michelle Duggar and Derick don’t get along at all. Here’s why.

Derick was fired from TLC due to homophobic and transphobic tweets

When Counting On first began, the soft-spoken Jill Duggar was a welcome presence to fans — but they quickly noticed that she and her husband, Derick Dillard, were no longer on advertisements for the show after he made a splash on Twitter. In Touch Weekly reminds us in 2017, Derick called Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent from Nate & Jeremiah By Design a “travesty of a family” because they’re gay. Even before that, Derick made several transphobic comments on Twitter about Jazz Jennings, a fellow TLC star and trans woman.

Due to all of this, it’s no surprise Derick was let go from the network. TLC noted in a statement, “We want to let our viewers know that Derick Dillard has not participated in Counting On for months and the network has no plans to feature him in the future.” Of course, Derick’s actions didn’t just reflect badly on him — but they affected the whole family. While diehard fans would continue watching Counting On, the Duggar family at large seemed to suffer from the backlash.

Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar reportedly scolded Derick over the bad press

It seems Derick didn’t just get a serious scolding from TLC. His wife’s parents, Jim Bob and Michelle, also reportedly weren’t too pleased with his tweets (even if they probably agreed with his stance). As one insider told Radar Online, “Everything that Derick has said has caused the family bad press.”

The insider continued on and told Radar that while Jim Bob and Michelle have tried to respect Derick because of his marriage to Jill, they totally had had enough — and they told him to his face that they disliked what he was doing online. Perhaps that’s the reason for Derick’s subdued tweets since the controversy. It appears he also may have set his Twitter to private for awhile until talk died down, though now it’s back to being public.

Though Jim Bob and Michelle likely approached Derick about the tweets, it’s unlikely they’d ever totally cut him off from the family as long as he’s Jill’s husband, too.

Recently, fans think Derick may have shaded Michelle on social media

As for Michelle and Derick feuding, fans seem to think Derick threw some shade on his mother-in-law with a recent Instagram post. The post showed a photo of his mother with his kids, and in the caption, he wrote, “Happy belated birthday to the best mom and grandma ‘Mima’ in the world @cldilla I’m so grateful to have been blessed with such a wonderful, godly mom, who has sacrificed so much for her family and others.” This post was really sweet — but fans noticed that he called his mom “the best” grandmother to his kids without any mention of Michelle.

We think it’s safe to assume Derick wasn’t attempting to bring any shade toward the other grandma in the family, though. He was seemingly writing nice sentiments for his mother and most likely had no ulterior motives. It seems any sort of “feud” fans believe could be occurring isn’t taking place at all.
