Is Kate Winslet’s 3rd Husband Really Named Ned Rocknroll?

Oscar-winning actor Kate Winslet has starred alongside some of Hollywood’s most famous leading men. The tragically romantic love story with Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic is her most memorable role. When did Kate Winslet get married?

The mother of three was first married to British film director James Threapleton in 1998. The two met on the set of a film they were working on together when she was just 23. The couple shares a daughter, Mia, who is now 20-years-old. The relationship ended in divorce in 2002. A statement from Winslet’s rep at the time said the separation was “amicable and respectful.”

The following year, Winslet married again, this time to English film director Sam Mendes. The pair stayed together for seven years and share a son, Joe, who is now 17 years of age. The couple realized their marriage was over on the set of Revolutionary Road, a tragic film about a couple going through a divorce. Winslet admitted to the Daily Mail that “at one point, her personal anguish mirrored the plot so much that she did not have to act.” They divorced in 2010.

In 2012, the twice-divorced Oscar winner unexpectedly married Ned Rocknroll in a small private ceremony. DiCaprio reportedly walked Winslet down the aisle. Rocknroll is the Head of Marketing Promotion and Astronaut Experience at Virgin Galactic. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Winslet’s newest husband has an estimated net worth of $25 million. He also happens to be the nephew of Virgin Group billionaire Richard Branson.

How Kate Winslet met her husband

Winslet met her third husband under very peculiar circumstances. She was vacationing with her then-boyfriend, male model Louis Dowler. They were on Necker Island at Branson’s Caribbean resort when a fire broke out. Winslet played a crucial role in saving Branson’s mother in the horrible disaster. It was on that island that the award-winning actor met her future third husband. The two felt an instant connection, and Winslet immediately put an end to her relationship with Dowler.

The Burberry model felt like a jilted lover after being dumped by the Finding Neverland actor. He told the Daily Mail, “I don’t think Kate behaved well, and it is still very raw for me.” Feeling abandoned, Dowler stated, “I was in love with her, and you can’t switch that off overnight.” He added, “I’m not sure Kate treated me well. I thought we were inseparable.”

Who is Kate Winslet with now?

Born Edward Abel Smith, Winslet’s newest husband officially changed his name to Ned Rocknroll in 2008. After marrying one of Tinseltown’s elite, he started thinking twice about his Rocknroll surname. In 2019, at the request of his wife, he changed back to his original boring name of Edward Abel Smith. On an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, the Hollywood starlet explained that her husband has “quite an original personality.” She said, “He just decided at one point in his life to just change his name to Rocknroll. Ned Rocknroll.”

Winslet explained to the late-night talk show host that everything changed after their son, Bear Blaze, was born in 2013. She said, “I got to the point where I’m like, you know, I’m filling in doctors’ forms, and it says ‘mother’s name’ and ‘father’s name’, and I’m like, ‘Honey … are we going to keep going?’ And he’s like, ‘Yeah, you’re right. I’ll just change it back.” Mr. Rocknroll now uses Smith as his last name, and his famous wife of the past eight years couldn’t be happier.
