Why Kim Zolciak left ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’

Zolciak-Biermann became a fan-favorite on The Real Housewives of Atlanta during its first few seasons. Viewers watched as she dished about her life as a single mom to her two daughters- Brielle and Ariana. Throughout the series, Zolciak-Biermann opened up about her married boyfriend, who she affectionately called “Big Poppa.” When that relationship ended, Zolciak-Biermann found love again while filming The Real Housewives of Atlanta. She met her husband, Kroy, while attending a dance event for Whitfield.

During season 5 of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Zolciak-Biermann was a pregnant newlywed. Stars of the show like Leakes complained that Zolciak-Biermann became distant once she expanded her family. The entire cast also confronted Zolciak-Biermann during an episode of the show when she declined to take a group trip to Anguilla. Zolciak-Biermann stormed out of the restaurant where the cast was eating. She then said she no longer wanted to be on The Real Housewives of Atlanta

“I want positivity around me,” Zolciak-Biermann later told Us Weekly about her departure from the show. “With these ladies, I feel like nine times out of 10; there’s going to be an argument. They’re not happy for me. They’re not supportive.”

Kim Zolciak-Biermann says she keeps in contact with former ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ cast members NeNe Leakes, Porsha Williams, and Shereè Whitfield

After she left The Real Housewives of Atlanta, Zolciak-Biermann landed a spinoff show at Bravo. She and her family star in Don’t Be Tardy…, which follows their lives and Zolciak-Biermann’s career. Although she starred in the show, Zolciak-Biermann briefly returned to The Real Housewives of Atlanta in season 10. Unfortunately, Zolciak-Biermann left the series again after one season.

During the Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen episode, a fan asked Zolciak-Biermann if she still talks to her former cast members. The clip from the show is on the show’s Instagram page. Zolciak-Biermann said she and Whitfield had remained friends after she left the series. She also shared that she texts Leakes and Williams sporadically but is proud of Williams’ recent activism work.

“Porsha is killing it. I live through Porsha vicariously. I love Porsha, and I always have. And I love that she stands up for what she believes in. It’s not easy being in the public eye and doing that, so props to her,” Zolciak-Biermann said.

Kim Zolciak-Biermann said ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’ would have to change its structure for her to return

Viewers shouldn’t expect to see Zolciak-Biermann joining The Real Housewives of Atlanta cast again anytime soon. In May 2020, she appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and discussed possibly returning to the show. Zolciak-Biermann reflected on her time with the series and admitted it wasn’t always negative. However, she said some elements would have to change for her to hold a Georgia peach again, per Bravo.
