The Late Late Show host James Corden announced this week that he has formed a partnership with WW (formerly known as Weight Watchers).

Saying he is “fed up with the way I look” and “fed up with being unhealthy,” Corden has made the decision to change how he looks and lives through WW.

The Carpool Karaoke star also made clear that his recent declaration is rooted in something else entirely.

Corden released an emotional video earlier this month

Like so many this time of year, Corden after months of indulging in holiday favorites took inventory of the post-festivities aftermath on his wellbeing and health.

The actor issued a statement via video on New Year’s Day this month that found Corden uncharacteristically serious. On his taped message, he honestly shared how he has been feeling about his health.

“I wanted to share with you a decision that I’ve made,” he said.

Corden opened up about his habit “every year, for the past decade — probably even 15 years” to announce as so many do on New Year’s Day to lose weight for good.

“Because of that, over Christmas, I’ve eaten everything that’s in the fridge because in my head in January I’m starting this diet, and it’ll be a success,” he said. “And as you can see, well, it hasn’t.”

He continued, stating that he’s never been able to “stick to anything like that. I’ve spent a long time accepting that this is my body and that’s it. But I really am sick and tired of just doing the same thing every year.”

Frustrated with the wearying cycle he’s been in, Corden shared that he finally decided to contact WW and find a better way.

“They told me that probably what I’m doing wrong is that I’m going on a diet, and that’s probably not the answer,” he stated.

Last year on New Year’s Day 2020, the comedian and actor stated that his resolution for that year was simply to stop wearing shapewear.

“I think I’m making a sacrifice wearing these Spanx,” he said on his late-night show. “I’m not even joking. My New Year’s resolution is to try to get to a point where I do one show this year without wearing Spanx. It will be like I’m suddenly free!”

In the end, the star of The Prom summed up what’s at the root of his recent decision.

On the WW website, the father of three stated, “I want to change the way that I live. I want to be better for my children and for my family. This last year has shown us all that taking care of yourself should be a priority.”

He continued with an appeal to those who are part of WW or also considering joining the health organization: “So much of this is about support—and if you sign up with me, I’ll support you through this, and you can support me.”

“Let’s make this the last year this is our New Year’s resolution.”
