Good Witch Season 6 ended on a major cliffhanger. With the Merriwick-Davenport curse finally broken, it seemed that all was well in Middleton. But in the last moments of the season finale, we learned that Cassie (Catherine Bell), Joy (Katherine Barrell), and Abigail (Sarah Power) had all received identical small purple bags filled with dirt. Who delivered the mysterious items and why? Even the normally prescient Cassie had no idea what was going on.
Fortunately, Goodies won’t be left hanging forever. Hallmark Channel has renewed Good Witch for a seventh season. Recently, series star James Denton (who plays Cassie’s husband Sam) dropped by Hallmark’s Bubbly Sesh podcast, where he shared some news about when production will begin on the new episodes.
The ‘Good Witch’ cast will get back to work in a few months
During his chat with hosts Jacks and Shawl, Denton explained how the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic had affected work on Good Witch. Unlike some shows that had to abruptly shut down production due to the virus, the Hallmark series was not filming at the time the pandemic ramped up, which he said was “fortunate.” However, it sounds like the ongoing crisis has pushed back the start date for season 7.
“We wrapped in December and we weren’t going to go back until now,” Denton shared in the August 20 podcast episode. “So it looks like we’re going to go back in October.”
Will there be a ‘Good Witch’ Halloween movie?
One thing Denton didn’t address during his Bubbly Sesh appearance was whether there would be a Good Witch Halloween movie in 2020.
Every year since its 2015 premiere, the show — which actually grew out of the Good Witch TV movie series — has aired a seasonal special in the weeks leading up to October 31. But if production isn’t expected to begin until October, it seems unlikely a Halloween movie is in the cards. TVLine has also reported that there won’t be a new Good Witch movie this Halloween.
James Denton will star in his first Hallmark Christmas movie
While there won’t be any Halloween treats for Goodies this year, Denton did have some other exciting news to share. This year, he’ll star in his first-ever Hallmark Christmas movie, A Kiss Before Christmas.
Denton compared the upcoming film to It’s a Wonderful Life and Heaven Can Wait. “It’s a really original script,” he said.
A Kiss Before Christmas is one of 40 new holiday movies that will air on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries in 2020. The “Countdown to Christmas” and “Miracles of Christmas” events kick off on Friday, October 23. Other new films on the horizon include If I Only Had Christmas with Candace Cameron Bure, Christmas Carnival with Tamera Mowry-Housley, and A Christmas Tree Grows in Brooklyn with Rochelle Aytes and Mark Taylor.
