Inside Jason Derulo and Jena Frumes’ Friendly Co-Parenting Dynamic

TikTok star Jason Derulo can’t gush more over his baby son. Derulo’s ex, Jena Frumes, gave birth to her and Derulo’s first child in 2021. Shortly after, they ended their relationship. But their social media activity has many believing the gorgeous former couple have been back together for quite some time.

Derulo and Frumes met at an LA gym in 2020. Shortly after, the coronavirus quarantine began, the couple began dating in March 2020. They quarantined together and often participated in TikToks together, sharing their relationship on social media. Fumes eventually became pregnant with their first child. She gave birth to a son, Jason King.

Four months into their parenthood, Derulo announced they split. “Jena and I have decided to part ways,” he tweeted. “She is an amazing mother but we feel being apart at this time will allow us to be the best versions of ourselves and the best parents we could be. Pls [sic] respect our privacy in this time.”

Despite the two no longer being with one another, Derulo and Frumes seemingly have a great co-parenting relationship. So much so that many believe they’ve reconciled. The two continue to post lovable family candids with one another and their son on their respective social media accounts. But Derulo told People Magazine in November 2021 that they are great friends and parents to their son.

“We don’t care if we’re confusing people about our situation because our situation is our situation,” he said. “We love [our son] more than anything, and his wellbeing is really important to us,” he adds. “I’m really attentive of her wellbeing as well, and I want her to be good. I care about her a lot. We have an amazing relationship, contrary to a lot of people’s beliefs.”

More than anything, Derulo basks in having one-on-one time with his son. “I love to watch the things that I love to watch with him,” he said. “He’s still young enough where he doesn’t really understand what he’s watching, but I love watching cartoons with him too. I think he brings out the child in me again.”

Derulo and Sparks began dating in 2011. They quickly grew as one of Hollywood’s favorite couples, attending red carpet events together. Sparks also made an appearance in Derulo’s “Marry Me” music video. But in 2014, they split. Sparks says she was blindsided by the breakup.

In her interview with The Breakfast Club, Sparks said she and Derulo had a minor argument. She said she apologized and assumed they were fine. Sparks was scheduled to leave town the following day and noticed shortly afterward that something was off with them. “He helped me with my bag to the car, he kissed me and told me he loved me, and then didn’t call,” she told the radio show hosts.

Derulo later said that he grew frustrated with the arguments they had. He also said the pressures of marriage got in the way of their relationship.
