What makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe special are its well-drawn characters. Obviously, this manifests itself in the lead roles.

Without colorful personalities like Steve Rogers, Tony Stark, or Peter Quill, fans would hardly feel compelled by the many action sequences. But outside the star parts, there are supporting roles that also help the universe feel more authentic. Those supporting characters can be found in both the movies and the Marvel television shows

One supporting character from the Netflix Marvel shows was Jeri Hogarth. While her run in the MCU was seemingly done, there may be an opportunity for her to return.

Who is Jeri Hogarth?

First, a bit of background from the comics on the character of Jeri Hogarth. The MCU character is based on a character from the comics named Jeryn Hogarth. According to the Marvel website, the Hogarth of the comics serves as a friend and advisor to Danny Rand (also known as the Iron Fist).

Hogarth advises Rand on issues pertaining to legal and business matters. He also helps guide Rand’s corporation, Rand-Meachum, Inc. While Iron Fist is out fighting crime and acting the part of a superhero, it’s Hogarth who stays back to maintain the business side of Rand’s empire.

Hogarth is an ally to the Marvel heroes in the comics. This remained true for the character’s adaptation in the MCU, though several other elements were changed significantly. The MCU’s Hogarth is a woman named Jeri Hogarth who serves as a lawyer.

According to the MCU wiki, the MCU Hogarth is played by veteran actor Carrie-Anne Moss. She starts out as an intern for Rand Enterprises, though when the Rands are believed dead she starts her own law firm. Hogarth later attempts to hunt the villain known as Kilgrave, an aim shared by Jessica Jones.

Her experience there leads her to hire Matt Murdock associate Foggy Nelson to help in future dealings with vigilantes. She also opts to represent Iron Fist to help him gain back control of Rand Enterprises.

Overall, Hogarth appears in four of Marvel’s Netflix shows: Jessica Jones, Daredevil, Iron Fist, and The Defenders. Many likely believed they’d seen the last of Hogarth following the cancellation of the Marvel Netflix shows. But there’s a possibility she may return for a future series.

A Reddit thread discussing Hogarth discussed how she could be integrated into the MCU going forward. One fan stated it plainly:

“She-Hulk. Pretty much everything Netflix can be brought back through that”

Disney+ has plans for a She-Hulk series that will focus on main character Jennifer Walters. Walters is an attorney. It’s not a huge leap of logic to conclude that Hogarth and Walters could either A) be working for the same firm or B) find themselves crossing paths in a courtroom or police station. There’s no shortage of potential opportunities to bring Hogarth back into the fold.

This may not even be the first time a Netflix character returns to the MCU. Rumors have swirled in recent months about Charlie Cox’s Daredevil appearing in the next Spider-Man film.  Were this to happen, there’s no reason to think Hogarth can’t also come back as a supporting character.

The Marvel Netflix shows were a big hit with fans. Their cancellation was less due to the quality of the shows and characters and more due to the corporate alignment of Marvel’s properties under the Disney tent. Marvel has the rights to these characters, so bringing them back is a no-brainer. With that in mind, having Hogarth pop up on She-Hulk makes all the sense in the world.
