Jimin made ‘Friends’ for BTS’ album ‘from scratch’

The song “Friends” was released on BTS’ album Map of the Soul: 7. “Friends” is about Jimin and V’s friendship, and it details inside jokes and how they view each other as “soulmates.”

On June 10, BTS released a new album titled Proof. Following the release of the album, Weverse Magazine interviewed Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.

In his interview with Weverse Magazine, Jimin detailed the making of “Friends,” saying:

“I made it from scratch, actually. I was just in the practice studio and thought, Should I try something, too? And got to work by myself, laying down a drum beat like, bum-tss-bum-tss. It wasn’t quite as soft as the version that exists now; I sang the melody a little more intensely. I was thinking of a song that would be a little more energetic than the sentimental melody it has now, but when I gave it to the producer, he said, ‘Oh, not bad,’ and, ‘I think a melancholy feel would suit you. What do you think?’ I agreed with the suggestion, so the song ended up sounding a little cuter than what I first envisioned.”

What Jimin thought of ‘Friends’ being included in ‘Eternals’

Eternals was released on Nov. 5, 2021. The MCU film stars Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Angelina Jolie, Kit Harington, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Lia McHugh, Barry Keoghan, Don Lee, Harish Patel, and Salma Hayek.

In the film, BTS are briefly mentioned, and “Friends” plays during a scene. Speaking with Weverse Magazine, Jimin revealed what he thought about seeing “Friends” in a Marvel film.

“Yes, I saw it in theaters. (laughs) It was amazing and I felt grateful, but I also wish I could have made an even better song,” the BTS singer said.

Jimin is close with the members of BTS

While “Friends” is about his friendship with V, Jimin respects and admires Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, and Jungkook as well. In his interview with Weverse Magazine, Jimin tried to describe how he views BTS.

“They’re more than just friends, brothers or family—they just feel like a place you can always come back to…,” he told Weverse Magazine. “It’s hard to put into words exactly, but I always got the impression they’re this powerful force that mentally helps me to return to my true self. So they’re more than just cool—it’s just, ‘thank you always.’ It’s hard to put into words, but it’s something like that. (laughs).”
