BTS reached No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100

The Korean band released their newest single “Dynamite” on Aug. 21. A disco-pop track featuring English lyrics, the song began breaking records within the first few minutes of its release.

The “Dynamite” music video had the biggest YouTube premiere of all time with 3 million concurrent viewers. Within 24 hours, the music video reached 101.1 million views, setting a record for the most-viewed video within its first 24 hours.

A few days later on Aug. 31, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, RM, Jimin, V, and Jungkook realized their biggest accomplishment of all when “Dynamite” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. With this historic achievement, BTS became the first all-South Korean group to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, and they set a record for the biggest digital sales week with over 265,000 digital downloads.

The group held a press conference celebrating their achievement

Following “Dynamite” reaching No. 1 on the Hot 100, the members of BTS met with invited media for a virtual press conference. The nearly hour-long event was a celebration, and members of the press and BTS expressed their gratitude for one another, highlighting that the relationship between press and artists can be mutualistic when it is at its best.

Having accomplished their biggest goal of achieving a No. 1 hit on Billboard, the members of BTS were asked what their next goal was. The answer? Performing a solo stage at the Grammy Awards, and after that being nominated for and winning a Grammy.

“We went to the Grammys at the beginning of the year and we did a collaboration performance. Now I would like to put on a single performance, just BTS on the Grammy Awards stage,” Suga said. “It would be great to receive an award, but that’s not going to become a reality just because we want it. We need help from a lot of people. Just getting to perform on the Grammy Awards stage is our goal.”

Jimin teased that BTS’ next song is just as good as ‘Dynamite’

After BTS found out about debuting at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with “Dynamite,” Jimin told reporters that the group spent the following morning talking about what it meant to them.

“I think what we talked about the most was that this is possible for us,” Jimin said. “We can really do this. Looking back, there were things we wanted to do, there were things we continued to do, things we kept doing. And this felt like an acknowledgment or reward for all of the things we have been doing this whole time…”

Having accomplished so much with “Dynamite,” one might wonder what BTS could possibly do next with their music. In the final minutes of BTS’ press conference, Jimin gave journalists a hint.

“In the future, I hope that you keep your eyes on us striving to achieve our next goal. We really like our song this time, but we really like our next songs too,” he said with a teasing smile. “I hope you look forward to it.”

BTS is expected to release an album later this year. Based on what Jimin teased, their upcoming music will be just as good if not better than “Dynamite.”
