The Duggars have been around for years, and we can’t forget that many of the kids in the family who are all grown up today grew up on reality television. Jinger Duggar has proven time and time again to be a favorite amongst fans. From her funny commentary when she was a child to her current updates on Counting On, we love that she seems like one of the more “rebellious” Duggars. And fans also love hearing all about her marriage, too.

We can’t envision Jinger with anyone other than Jeremy Vuolo — but it turns out she had serious doubts he’d ever like her. Here’s what she said about their relationship on Jeremy and Audrey Roloff’s podcast, “Behind the Scenes.”

Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo initially met through Jessa Duggar and her husband

Jinger and Jeremy have an interesting love story that they explain on their Vuolo family blog. Jeremy initially met Jessa Duggar before he ever met Jinger — and he first crossed paths with Jessa when he was hosting a church fellowship at his house. Jessa and her husband, Ben Seewald, were in the San Antonio area looking for something to do when they got word that Jeremy was hosting the event. “It wasn’t long before we developed a friendship and two and a half months later I made a trip to visit Ben and Jess and it was then that I met Jinger and the rest of the family,” Jeremy wrote on the blog.

Over the next several months, Jeremy explains that he started to get to know Jinger more — and he started praying about the possibility of courting her. He then approached Jim Bob Duggar — Jinger and Jessa’s dad — about a possible courtship. “This opened up the door for Mr. Duggar and me to build a friendship and began this great new chapter of my life with Jinger,” Jeremy wrote. And by November 2016, just five months after their initial courtship began, Jinger and Jeremy were married.

Jinger said on a podcast that she didn’t think Jeremy would be interested

Jinger and Jeremy seem super in love after their first few years of marriage, and they even have a baby who’s 8 months old now, too. Oddly enough, Jinger had moments of doubt where she didn’t think Jeremy would be interested in her. As she shared on the “Behind the Scenes” podcast, “I knew he was an awesome, awesome guy, but I was like ‘he’d never be interested in me, that’s for sure.'” Jinger then went on to explain that she was able to spend more time with Jeremy, as they went on a mission trip together — and she realized he had all the qualities that she “prayed for in a spouse.”

Jinger noted during the podcast that she had a few “non-negotiables” — and one was that her future husband absolutely had to love Jesus Christ. “There are so many young men who are not serious about Christ … they didn’t love Christ, they didn’t know him personally,” Jinger added. “Upon meeting Jeremy I just saw such a depth in his walk with Christ — a life of prayer and desiring holiness and purity.” She also added that his good looks helped, of course. “I just began praying,” she added. And Jinger told mom Michelle Duggar, “I feel safe with this guy,” which really sealed the deal.

Jeremy also said during the podcast that he had his doubts Jinger would have interest

Funnily enough, while Jinger was having doubts that Jeremy would have interest in her, Jeremy noted during the podcast episode that he was hopeful — but doubtful — that Jinger would be interested in him back. He noted that he prayed to God that if the two of them were meant to be, then God would “put a desire for me on her heart. Unbeknownst to me, he was doing that,” Jeremy added. “She says, ‘Well, he would never be interested in me,’ and I reciprocated that. I thought, ‘She’s never going to be interested in me’ … but I believe in a big God who can change hearts so I thought I’d pray anyway,” Jinger’s husband laughed.

Jeremy also added that he had a list of what he wanted in a spouse — and it seems Jinger fit the bill. “Does she submit to God’s word? Does she love Christ more than she loves me? Those sorts of things,” he said. “When I met Jinger and started to get to know her … it was like, this is the woman I want to marry.” Cheers to the happy Vuolo family. We can’t wait to see what their new life in Los Angeles has in store for them next.
