Chip and Joanna Gaines know the importance of family

For Gaines and her husband Chip, family is important and the driving factor of their success. After gaining fame on the popular home renovation show Fixer Upper, the couple was willing to give it all up for their family. Following many years of working on the HGTV show, they both decided to pump the breaks on show business.

“I think towards the end we just lost steam, we lost the purpose in it,” she told Oprah on Super Soul. “We wanted to wake up every day and say this is why we’re doing this and I think toward the end, it almost felt like it was wagging our tail, and it was controlling us.”

The couple decided to take a year off to focus on their family and think about what they wanted to do next. During their pause, Gaines found out she was pregnant and that’s when little Crew was born.

“Every year we realized, ‘wait more people know us,’ you can’t really go out as much like you used to,” Joanna explained during the Oprah interview. “I think what happened is we needed that year to really ground ourselves again as humans and say this is what’s normal for us like it was.”

The Gaines family eventually returned as the heads of the Magnolia Network where Magnolia Table airs.
