Josh Duggar’s Trial: Amy Duggar Calls Out Justin Duggar for Inappropriate Gesture: ‘Where Is the Respect?’
Josh Duggar’s trial continues on Dec. 3, 2021, and a number of Duggar family members made court appearances so far. Amy Duggar (now Amy King), a cousin of the Duggar family featured on TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting in the past, has vocally stood against the Duggars before. And she recently condemned Justin Duggar for the inappropriate gesture he made outside of the courthouse. Here’s what went down.
Amy Duggar has been vocal about her feelings regarding Josh Duggar’s trial
Prior to Josh Duggar’s trial, Amy Duggar made it known that she doesn’t necessarily support the Duggar family. She had a more relaxed upbringing than many of Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar’s kids, and she told Entertainment Tonight she’s happy to be where she is today.
“I think we are all just trying to find our path and we’re all just doing things differently,” Amy explained. “I’m doing things differently and I’m happy where I’m at. I’m happy for them. Things are definitely different, but I’m happy for everybody.”
Despite wishing everyone well, she’s been vocal about Josh Duggar ever since his arrest. Daily Mail reports she posted about praying “the judge will give the ultimate sentence” to Josh as a result of his crimes. She also posted to her Instagram Stories about the current happenings.
“Today is a heavy day,” Amy wrote on Instagram on Nov. 30, 2021. “This whole week will be. Next week will be too. Until justice is served.”

While Amy Duggar didn’t seem to attend Josh Duggar’s trial, she’s clearly keeping up with everything going on. And she saw Justin Duggar’s response to the events in the courthouse that went down on Dec. 2, 2021.
Justin Duggar and his wife, Claire Spivey, were reportedly at the trial. Claire’s mother, Hilary Spivey, also attended. The Sun reports Justin flashed a big grin and two thumbs up to the reporters’ cameras as he left the courthouse for the day. Given the seriousness of the situation, Duggar family followers found the gesture deeply inappropriate — and so did Amy Duggar.
“Also, you don’t smile with your thumbs up leaving in a situation like this,” Amy tweeted on Dec. 3, 2021. “Where is the respect?”
Amy also seemed to tweet again in response to the trial. “It’s OK to show emotions especially when it’s a heartbreaking situation,” she tweeted on Dec. 3. “Who cares if cameras are there? Just be real for once.” It’s unclear exactly who she’s referencing with this tweet.
These other Duggar family members attended the trial with Justin Duggar
Aside from Justin Duggar and his wife, several other Duggar family members attended Josh Duggar’s trial on Dec. 2 and Dec. 3. According to The Sun, Joy-Anna Duggar and her husband, Austin Forsyth, showed up both days. Derick Dillard, Jill Duggar’s husband, also attended. And Josh Duggar’s wife, Anna Duggar, is by his side through all of this.
Jill Duggar and Jed Duggar were added to the possible witness list, too. While they are not currently witnessing the rest of the trial, Duggar family followers are curious to see if they will testify in court for the defense or prosecution. Amy Duggar has a close relationship with Jill, so we imagine she will tweet supportively for Jill if Jill does testify.
