Josh Gad is a beloved actor and comedian, with an impressive resume from his work on television and films. Although he is probably most famous for his voiceover work in the Frozen franchise, he is still widely recognized from his appearances in television shows like Modern Family, New Girl, The Daily Show, and ER.

Although Gad is well-liked for his personable, friendly attitude, he has experienced some personal struggles — such as a battle with weight loss that has plagued him for years.

Recently, Gad sat down with Dax Shepard for an in-depth interview where he discussed his love for carbs and how his affection for food often gets in the way of his health goals.

Josh Gad was born in Florida in 1981. Although none of his immediate family members were in show business, Gad started exploring his funny side at an early age and attended the Carnegie Mellon College of Fine Arts. After his graduation in 2003, Gad immediately got started acting and was cast on the sitcom Back to You.

Although that show only lasted one season, Gad made quite an impression on viewers, and he was cast as a correspondent on The Daily Show in 2009.

Gad also began appearing in a wide variety of movies, including hits like The Rocker, Love & Other Drugs, She Wants Me, The Wedding Ringer, and Beauty and the Beast. By far his most popular role is that of the cheerful snowman Olaf in Frozen and Frozen II.

He has also lent his voice to other animated films, including The Angry Birds Movie and The Angry Birds Movie 2. Up next, Josh Gad will be appearing in the new film Artemis Fowl

Josh Gad’s roller-coaster weight loss journey

At the very beginning of his career, Josh Gad earned a reputation as the chubby best-friend type and relied on his size for many jokes. For a few years, his weight seemed to be fairly stagnant.

However, in 2012, Gad went through an extreme weight loss journey, completely overhauling his look for a role in the film Jobs. Gad revealed that he lost thirty pounds for the role by following a protein-heavy, low-carb diet.

Not long after the film premiered in 2013, Gad packed the pounds back on. These days, he is once again known as the “chubby sidekick,” and has played the role to perfection, including in the live-action Disney film Beauty and the Beast

Does Josh Gad have a serious food addiction?

In February, Josh Gad sat down with Dax Shepard for an episode of his wildly popular podcast, Armchair Expert. In the podcast, Gad talked about his relationship with his body and how he has struggled with his weight for years. Gad admitted that he admired super-fit celebs, such as the newly muscle-bound Kumail Nanjiani, but that he isn’t willing to put in the work that it takes for such a physique.

Several times throughout the interview, Gad discussed his love for food, revealing that “I think the hardest part (about fasting) is not eating food, in general, in life. It’s always hard.”

Gad also indirectly admitted to a food addiction, stating that “I’m addicted to food. I’m addicted to carbohydrates. They’re so satisfying.”

Gad certainly didn’t seem to be joking about his love of food, and there could be something to what he said. Many experts agree that food addiction is a very real thing, and that eating certain fatty foods that are high in carbohydrates could cause changes in brain structure. Gad did not reveal whether he has a diagnosed food addiction — but he was certainly clear about his overwhelming love of comfort food.
