We’ve been watching the Duggars for years thanks to shows like 19 Kids and Counting and now, Counting On. Jim Bob and Michelle first brought their 19 kids into the spotlight, though all eyes are on their adult children now. And it’s Jessa, Jinger, Jana, and Joy-Anna — among many other Duggars — who also have a serious social media presence where they keep their fans updated on what’s going on in their lives.

Joy-Anna Duggar and her husband, Austin Forsyth, share their house-flipping ventures on Instagram. And they also share certain aspects of their marriage and parenthood as they’re raising their 2-year-old son, Gideon.

Joy-Anna frequently posts photos and videos of Gideon, and an Instagram post added on Jan. 8 also contains subtle religious references. Here’s what she posted.

The Duggars are known for being ultra-religious

Not only did Jim Bob and Michelle attain a following due to having an unusually large family, but they’re also quite adamant about sharing their religious ways. The Duggars identify as devout independent Baptists. They believe they were put on earth to serve the Lord, and they also believe in staying modest, having as many children as God will gift them, and that the husband is the ruler of the home.

The Duggar’s religion is one of the most controversial aspects of their family. Back on 19 Kids and Counting, we saw many of the Duggars go through bizarre courting rituals instead of traditional dating. This meant that the Duggar kids who are now married never kissed, held hands, or had any sexual relations with their spouses prior to their wedding day.

While many expected some of Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids to rebel against their religious upbringing, it seems they all still follow Christianity heavily, too.

Austin Forsyth, Joy-Anna’s husband, also hopes to spread his Christian values

Like the rest of the Duggar kids, Joy-Anna had a courtship before she married and continues following her Christian faith to this day. And Jim Bob had a say in who she married, of course. For this reason, Austin Forsyth is also deeply religious and hopes to spread Christianity through his time on Counting On.

Back in 2018, In Touch Weekly reported that Austin and Joy-Anna’s Instagram followers accused them of only being on reality TV for the money. To that, Austin commented.

“It’s amazing to me how people make emphatic statements about stuff to which they have no clue about. It’s crazy how much you know about me yet have never met me,” Austin wrote. “The show is to promote Jesus Christ and his goodness. I hope and pray you have a relationship with him.”

A photo of Gideon holds subtle religious hints

There’s no doubt Joy-Anna and Austin will start teaching their son about religion from an early age. In fact, it seems the religious teachings have already begun. Joy-Anna added an Instagram photo of Gideon sitting at what looks to be a child’s desk after he scribbled all over a piece of paper. And upon closer inspection, the paper has a Bible verse on it.

“The Lord is good to all: and His tender mercies are over all His works,” the eagle-eyed Reddit users found the paper says.

Those who noticed the scripture had a lot of opinions, of course.

“Yes Joy the Lord is good to ALL, not just white, straight Christians who wear their skirts down to their ankles and who follow Gothard’s teachings,” one Reddit user commented.

Jim Bob and Michelle’s kids don’t appear to be as aggressive with their religious teachings as their parents were, but Christian teachings are still very present. We’ll keep our eyes peeled to see if Joy-Anna continues to add subtle religious teachings to Gideon’s playtime.
