Judge Judy, whose given name is Judith Sheindlin, has been dominating our televisions for decades. The Brooklyn-born judge earned her law degree in 1965 from the New York School of Law, and she went on to become a corporate lawyer before becoming a prosecutor in the New York family courts. In 1982, Sheindlin was appointed as a criminal court judge by New York Mayor Ed Koch.

However, it wasn’t until the ’90s when she was profiled on 60 Minutes that she gained national recognition. From there, she penned her first book, Don’t Pee on My Leg and Tell Me It’s Raining, and went on to star in her own reality show, Judge Judy which debuted in 1996 on CBS.

Now after all of these years, Judge Judy is ending its tenure on CBS and Sheindlin is letting the network know that she is not at all pleased with them.

Is Judge Judy a billionaire?

When Judge Judy debuted in 1996, it was an immediate ratings hit for CBS. Sheindlin was widely praised and beloved for her no-nonsense attitude and her brutal candor. By 1999, the daytime courtroom drama, which would pave the way for reality TV as we know it, garnered seven million viewers each week.

Within the first few years of the show airing, Sheindlin took home a paycheck of $25 million per season. That salary has nearly doubled in the years since, with the pioneering judge taking home a paycheck of $47 million for each season of her show.

Judy Judy has made the Emmy Award winner an extremely wealthy woman, but she has not quite reached billionaire status just yet. Somehow, we don’t think she’s too upset about that. According to Celebrity Net Worth, she is worth $420 million.

Did Judge Judy retire?

The final episode of Judge Judy is set to air on June 25, 2021, a fitting end after 25 seasons on the air. However, that doesn’t mean that the now 78-year-old judge is retiring. Though Sheindlin has ended her partnership with CBS, a new show is already on the horizon.

Deadline is reporting that she will launch Judy Justice later this year on IMDb TV, Amazon’s free, ad-supported streaming service. 100 episodes of the show have already been ordered. It will be the very first court program on a streaming platform.

“I’m over the moon to be in business with Amazon Studios and continuing this incredible journey with them on a new platform is so exciting,” Sheindlin said in a statement “I used to yell at my husband, Jerry, for all the packages he had ordered from Amazon every day. I have enough mouthwash in the cabinets to keep the entire planet’s breath fresh until the next millennium. The doorbell never stops ringing. The dogs don’t even bark at the delivery people anymore. After I signed this deal, I apologized to Jerry. Who would have thought that the Sheindlin’s and Amazon would be mishpachah?”

Judge Judy is angry with CBS

Sheindlin announced the end of Judge Judy when she revealed that she and CBS could not agree on a deal for more seasons of the show. Now, Sheindlin is airing her grievances with the network, especially after they booted her other show Hot Bench off the air in some of the biggest markets in the country in favor of The Drew Barrymore Show.

You disrespected my creation,” Sheindlin told Wall Street Journal. “And you were wrong. Not only in disrespecting my creation, but your gamble in what you put in its place. We had a nice marriage. It’s going to be a Bill and Melinda Gates divorce.”
