'Jujutsu Kaisen: 0' will feature more of a fan-favorite character, Satoru Gojo. Let's take a closer look at what to expect.

Prequels can be tricky. If they’re not executed right, they can seem redundant and unnecessary. However, if done well, they have the chance to shine a new light on an existing franchise, bringing something new to it by exploring its past. Animation, or rather Anime, fans hope this is the case for the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen prequel.

The film Jujutsu Kaisen: 0 is based on the original series but takes place before its events and timeline. Not much is known about it, but with a recently released trailer, one thing’s for sure. The trailer for the film was only a preview of what’s to come. Fans will have to wait a few more months, but the release is coming. The Japanese premiere date of Jujutsu Kaisen: 0 is December 24, 2021.  However, international fans may have longer to hold on. There’s been no international release date set for the film as of yet.

As for the series’ second season, no release date has been set. The first season premiered in the latter half of 2020, extending through the winter months of 2021. That means that a movie in the winter of 2021 may mean a 2022 release date for the second season, though nothing official has been announced yet.

What’s revealed in the new ‘Jujutsu Kaisen: 0’ trailer

Polygon reported that a teaser had been released for the Jujutsu Kaisen prequel film. The title of the movie will be Jujutsu Kaisen 0. The teaser reveals the film’s protagonist, Yuta Okkotsu, giving fans a first look at how the character will look in the movie. The trailer also shows a few brief elements of Okkotsu’s story, which features a girl from sometime in his past. Not much else is shown in the way of details.

The trailer’s purpose is clear: get Jujutsu Kaisen fans primed and ready for this without spoiling anything. It featured the same distinctive style of animation seen in the original. It also said that Megumi Ogata, star of Neon Genesis Evangelion, will provide the Japanese voice of Okkotsu.

Okkotsu won’t be the only character featured, however. Satoru Gojo is expected to be featured prominently here, with that character’s backstory explored in greater detail. There will likely be other Jujutsu Kaisen characters from the original series included as well.

The curse spreads to the boy, beginning to turn him into a demon. He attempts to fight off the demon from controlling his body by enrolling in a shaman’s school. His goal is to locate the other body parts of the demon to remove the demon’s presence from his body.
