Prince William and Prince Harry may have grown up as royals with personal chefs and access to the finest foods. But that doesn’t mean they don’t love an occasional fast food binge. The sons of the late Princess Diana are reportedly big fans of the South Africa-based fast food chicken chain Nando’s. But Harry’s go-to order is somewhat controversial.

Prince William’s personal protection officer introduced him to Nando’s

As the future king, William has always had a security team with him when he leaves Kensington Palace. And those guards have often been the Duke of Cambridge’s connection to life in the non-royal world.

According to The Mirror, William once met Nando’s co-founder Robert Brozin in London, and told him that it was his personal protection officer that turned him on to the “very good” fast food restaurant.

“This man here is your biggest fan, he’s introduced me to Nando’s,” William reportedly said.

Like William, Prince Harry is also a fan of the chicken chain. He was spotted at the Fulham Broadway location in 2013 around midnight after England’s World Cup qualification.

Prince Harry has a somewhat controversial Nando’s order

During his 2013 late-night fast food run, Harry picked up $25 worth of takeout for himself and a friend. While he waited for his order, an eyewitness says the Duke of Sussex played on his phone.

“It was surreal. He was very charming and politely refused a member of staff who approached him for a picture. I was gobsmacked to see him,” the witness said.

What’s surprising to some royal fans is what Prince Harry ordered from Nando’s that night — a chicken pita with extra cheese and lemon and herb seasoning. He also ordered a side of creamy mashed potatoes, a double chicken wrap, fries, and soft drinks.

What makes Harry’s chicken pita order so controversial is how bland it is. The lemon and herb option is the mildest of the fiery spice flavors that Nando’s offers.

Princess Diana used to take Prince William and Prince Harry to McDonald’s

Nando’s isn’t the only fast food chain that William and Harry have enjoyed during their royal lives. When they were growing up, their mom regularly took her boys to McDonald’s. According to Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell, visiting the golden arches was part of their Saturday night routine.

The People’s Princess also enjoyed making comfort food for her family at home, and she would occasionally shop at the Marks and Spencers grocery store for burgers and fries. Diana’s former protection officer Ken Wharfe said that the public was often shocked to see the princess in the aisles.

“I used to think, why do you need to do this? Because there must be stacks of it back at Kensington Palace,” Wharfe said. “But it was this thing about Diana, being in touch with normality and reality.”

When it comes to fast food, though, the person in the royal family with the biggest connection is Queen Elizabeth. Her Majesty actually owns a Mcdonald’s in Banbury, Oxfordshire as part of the Crown Estate property empire. However, it’s unknown if the queen has ever tried a Big Mac.
