Actors have varying opinions on doing nude scenes for films. Some don’t mind it, especially if it’s necessary for a movie. Others have clauses written into their contracts that guarantee they don’t do nude scenes. Elizabeth Olsen was one of those actors who had no problem stripping for film depending on the context. However, a little help from Kate Winslet helped encourage the actor to bear all if the situation called for it.

The outspoken Titanic star has been very vocal about her feelings regarding nude scenes. To Winslet, doing nude scenes can be a source of empowerment for her fanbase.

“I look like the people that walk down the street. I don’t have perfect boobs, I don’t have zero cellulite — of course I don’t — and I’m curvy. If that is something that makes women feel empowered in any way, that’s great,” Winslet told The Sun (via Entertainment Weekly.)

Winslet also shared that one of her motivations behind disrobing for a film was the fact that not many actors would do the same.

“On a deeper, subconscious level, it’s one of the reasons why I’ve allowed my stupid self to be so naked on screen,” Winslet said. “It’s partly because I do believe that it’s right for the character and it’s right for the story but it’s also knowing that not many people do that, actually — and not just that, but I’m a normal person.”

There might have been something to her claims, as Winslet exposing herself once had a profound effect on another talented actor.

How Kate Winslet inspired Elizabeth Olsen to do nude scenes

Elizabeth Olsen once revealed Kate Winslet left a huge impression on her when she was younger. In one of Winslet’s earlier movies, the actor once again disrobed for the camera. But the visual was a bit comforting for the Wandavision star at the time.

“I remember watching Holy Smoke and thinking that it was so reassuring to see a young Kate doing something that was so bold in so many ways,” she told The Edit (via E-News.) “I thought to myself, ‘OK, so it doesn’t destroy your career if you appear nude or take risks.’”

These ideas weren’t without pushback, however. Not everyone was ok with Olsen appearing nude in films.

“Not everyone in my family and group of friends thought it was the best idea to be naked in a movie,” Olsen continued. “There are actresses, young and old, who have decided never to do that, and they become these examples people talk to you about.”

But Olsen doesn’t indulge in these types of scenes because she feels obligated to. It’s a choice.

“You want that voyeuristic quality, but I never feel I have to be nude,” she said.

Elizabeth Olsen has already appeared nude in a couple of films. In an interview with Black Tree TV, Olsen explained exactly why she wasn’t concerned about disrobing for the film Oldboy. And it’s an attitude she carries for the art of cinema as a whole as well.

“It’s just something I have a very specific point of view on,” Olsen said. “I don’t find anything wrong with the human body help telling a story. I personally wouldn’t enjoy it if I was there for gratuity reasons. I would feel more uncomfortable walking down in slow motion on a beach in a bathing suit in a film than I would doing something that helps serve the story.”
