The media has always condemned Katherine Heigl for speaking her mind. After starring in Knocked Up, the actor criticized the movie for being “a little sexist.” As a result of the actor expressing her opinion, she made it to the top of the list as the most hated woman in Hollywood. Now, in 2021, Heigl is done apologizing. She had spent enough years feeling “terrified” for being labeled as “difficult.”

Seth Rogen said he felt ‘betrayed’ by Katherine Heigl’s critique on ‘Knocked Up’

When asked about her thoughts on the film, Heigl expressed her honest opinion:

“I’m playing such a b*tch; why is she being such a killjoy?” Heigl said of her character in the Judd Apatow movie. “Why is this how you’re portraying women? Ninety-eight percent of the time, it was an amazing experience. But it was hard for me to love the movie.”

When Heigl said that Knocked Up was a sexist film, she was met with extreme backlash. Rogen, who starred in the film alongside Heigl, says he felt “betrayed” by her opinion.

“As we were making the movie, honestly, I was like, ‘I would make a dozen movies with her,'” Rogen told The Hollywood Reporter.

He said that he would be “whatever the sh*tty version of Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan is” since he and Heigl had such good on-screen chemistry. “People seemed to like it,” he said. “We were funny together. I was having a really good time. And then when I heard afterward that she didn’t like it, that she seemed to not like the process, and she did not like the end product either, I think when that happens… your trust feels somewhat betrayed.”

Katherine Heigl felt ‘terrified’ about being labeled ‘difficult’

In a recent interview with The Washington Post, Heigl said that she couldn’t speak her mind without feeling attacked. “At the time, I was just quickly told to shut the f— up. The more I said I was sorry, the more they wanted it,” she said. “The more terrified and scared I was of doing something wrong, the more I came across like I had done something horribly wrong.”

Things got so bad for Heigl’s mental health that she had to seek out a therapist. “I was not handling it well,” Heigl told Howard Stern (via US Weekly.) “I was feeling completely like the biggest piece of sh*t on the bottom of your shoe.”

Heigl says she was “really struggling not to feel that there’s something really deeply wrong” with her.

“It was a weird time,” Heigl said. “I remember doing this little independent movie and just being afraid to say anything about anything.”

The actor says she remembers wearing shoes a size too small because she “was afraid to tell wardrobe that they weren’t big enough.” Why? because she didn’t want to be “difficult.”

Fortunately, as we have entered a new era, Heigl has learned to praise her ambition rather than feel guilty for it.
“I’ve grown into accepting that ambition is not a dirty word and that it doesn’t make me less of a feminine, loving, nurturing woman to be ambitious and have big dreams and big goals,” she tells The Washington Post. “It’s easier to be happy because I have a little more gentleness for myself.”
