The Touching Reason Kim Kardashian West Calls SKIMS Partnership With Team USA for Tokyo Olympics a ‘Full Circle’ Moment

Kim Kardashian West's shapewear brand, SKIMS, has been tapped to design underwear and loungewear for all the female athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympics. While the Olympic collection is the one fans never saw coming, but it’s also one that makes total sense given her family’s tie to the prestigious sporting event.

Two years ago, Kim Kardashian West launched her shapewear line, SKIMS, which has since hit several milestones. Not only is the line valued at over $1 billion, but its designs are being worn by practically every celebrity. Now, the line is hitting its biggest milestone yet as Kardashian West just announced that the brand will be designing Team USA’s underwear and loungewear for the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Kim Kardashian West’s SKIMS is the official loungewear for Olympic athletes

Every Olympic Games, fashion brand Ralph Lauren unveils its design for Team USA’s uniforms for the opening and closing ceremonies. Now, a new designer is joining the lineup, and it’s none other than the fashion and beauty mogul herself, Kim Kardashian West.

On June 28, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star took to social media to announce that her popular solution-focused brand, SKIMS, is partnering with Team USA to create shapewear and loungewear for all the female athletes competing in the Tokyo Olympics.

“I am honored to announce that @SKIMS is designing the official team USA undergarments, pajamas and lounge wear for the athletes this year in Tokyo and the same pieces will be available in a capsule collection at http://SKIMS.COM,” she tweeted.

In the post, Kardashian West included a sneak peek at the forthcoming collection. She also shared featured images of renowned Team USA Olympic athletes modeling the designs, including soccer star Alex Morgan, swimmer Haley Anderson, Paralympic Track & Field athlete Scout Bassett, hurdler Dalilah Muhammad, and basketball player A’ja Wilson.

“These women are incredible role models for younger girls, including my own daughters, showing them that anything is possible if you work hard enough,” Kardashian West said in a press release, per People. “SKIMS is designed to empower women to feel their best every day and we’re excited to work with Team USA to help spread this message.”

Designing the Olympic collection is especially meaningful for Kim Kardashian West

Since she is the step-daughter of Olympic gold medalist Caitlyn Jenner, Kardashian West has always appreciated the Games and its athletes.

Growing up, the reality star was told inspirational stories of the Olympics and saw up-close all the hard work and dedication each participant put into their craft. Now that her SKIMS brand has been tapped to collaborate with Team USA for the prestigious sporting event, Kardashian West couldn’t be more delighted as this milestone is especially meaningful to her.

“Ever since I was 10 years old, I’ve heard every single detail about the Olympics from my stepdad,” she wrote on Instagram. “As I would watch the athletes compete, I would grow to understand the dedication and honor being a part of the Olympics embodied. I traveled w my stepdad and family to all different cities for the Olympic trials, the Olympics and track meets of @caitlynjenner’s and at every stop I would buy an Olympic t-shirt as a souvenir.”
